What is e-Challan in Delhi?

The e challan Delhi is a digital traffic violation ticket issued to the motorist after a traffic rule violation is recorded by electronic devices, CCTV cameras, ANPR technology or traffic sensors. The commonly issued Delhi challans include helmet challan in Delhi (driving without a helmet), no parking challan in Delhi, and wrong side challan.

Once a violation is detected, a digital challan is generated and a Delhi traffic notice is sent to the vehicle owner’s registered mobile number.

The Delhi notice challan was introduced as a digital solution for traffic law enforcement, replacing the traditional paper challan system.

Benefits of paying e-challan Delhi on Park+

Paying your Delhi e-challan online on Park+ provides a fast and secure way to manage traffic penalties. It helps vehicle owners complete the fine payment and track violations without visiting traffic police offices.

  • Time saving and convenience: You can complete the Delhi traffic challan pay process anytime and from anywhere.
  • Easy access to challan information: Park+ allows you to check online challan Delhi using the vehicle number in seconds. This makes it easier to monitor pending fines and stay compliant with traffic regulations.
  • Secure payment process: The digital payment system ensures that every Delhi police challan payment is processed securely and recorded properly.
  • Instant confirmation and digital record: Once it is complete, you will receive instant confirmation along with the digital receipt. This record helps during future verification, resale and vehicle document checks.
  • Avoid legal issues: Timely payment helps prevent late fees, legal notices or licence-related complications. It also ensures your vehicle maintains clean compliance and traffic records.

How to check vehicle (car and bike ) challan online in Delhi?

Vehicle challan can be checked online on Park+ or Parivahan. Simply visit the challan page and enter the number plate to check challan by vehicle number and get the challan details from the government database in minutes.

Can I check challan by photo?

No, challan check Delhi cannot be performed by photo; however, the attached photo helps in understanding where and when a traffic rule violation happened. If you found the challan incorrectly issued, you can immediately raise a complaint.

Why check Delhi traffic challan regularly?

Regular Delhi challan checks help you stay informed about pending violations and avoid unnecessary penalties.

Some key benefits include:

  • Stay updated on newly issued traffic challans.

  • Check the status of pending Delhi challans.

  • Avoid additional penalties due to delayed payment.

  • Maintain a clean driving record.

  • Reduce the risk of driving licence suspension.

  • Prevent delays during car insurance renewal and other vehicle-related services.

How long does a Delhi traffic challan take to reflect online?

The time required for a Delhi traffic challan to reflect online depends on how the violation was detected and processed.

Camera-based e-challan (CCTV/ANPR detection)

  • Most camera-detected challans are generated automatically and may reflect within 24-72 hours.
  • An SMS notification is usually sent to the registered mobile number once the Delhi police challan is issued.
  • You can then use authorised platforms like Park+ and Parivahan to check your Delhi challan online using your vehicle number.

Manually issued challan (by a Traffic Police Officer)

  • Manually issued challans usually reflect between 2 - 5 days.

  • The challan appears only after the officer uploads the violation details into the system.

  • You can later track the challan's status using your vehicle number for the payment.

What to do if the Delhi e challan doesn’t appear?

If you don’t see a fine after a few days, it may still be under processing.

You can take the following steps:

  1. Check your challan status again on authorised platforms like Park+, Parivahan, or the Delhi Traffic Police website.

  2. Review the Delhi traffic police challan sent to your registered mobile number via SMS for information.

  3. Contact Delhi Traffic Police or visit the nearest traffic office if the challan still does not appear after sufficient time.

What is the validity of a challan in Delhi?

The validity of the Delhi traffic challan is 45 days, during which the vehicle owner can pay or contest a challan (if wrongly issued). If no action is taken, the challan will be treated as accepted.
Another 30-day window is provided for payment (in case the complaint is rejected) of the Delhi traffic fine. If the individual chooses to visit the court, he still has to pay 50% of the challan amount first, as per the new traffic rules in Delhi.
An additional 15-day grace period may be provided for challan settlement before authorities take stricter action.

The non-payment of the Delhi traffic police e challan will lead to additional penalties or legal consequences.

Consequences of an unpaid Delhi traffic challan

Not paying the Delhi police traffic challan can lead to serious legal and financial consequences. It is important to address challans promptly to avoid further complications.

Unpaid challans can lead to:

- Increased penalty amount: Unpaid challans may attract additional late fees or increased penalties over time.

  • Court summons: If the challan remains unpaid, the case may be forwarded to the traffic court, and you may receive a legal notice to appear.

  • Licence suspension: Repeated or unresolved violations can lead to suspension of your driving licence.

  • Vehicle blacklisting: Authorities may flag your vehicle in the system, which can create issues during inspections or future verifications.

  • Vehicle seizure: The authorities can seize your vehicle if the Delhi traffic penalty is not paid on time.

  • Insurance hassles: It can also lead to problems during car insurance renewals.

Difference between traffic police challan and RTO challan

Traffic police challans and RTO challan are used interchangeably by the motorists but there is a very thin line between them. Both the challans are issued to the person committing an offence, but the difference lies in the type of violation.

Below is a clear distinction between a traffic police challan and an RTO challan:

Basis of DifferenceTraffic Police ChallanRTO Challan
BasisIssued in the context of committing a traffic offence.Issued when a motorist fails to maintain the vehicle documents.
General ReasonsRed light jumping
Overspeeding

Issues in vehicle registration

Documents required to avoid Delhi traffic challan

Failure to carry the essential documents when driving a vehicle is also punishable under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. There are certain documents that the driver should always carry when on the road.

The must-have documents when driving/riding a vehicle in India are:

  • Driving Licence (DL): As per the law, no person is allowed to drive a vehicle without having a DL. A valid DL is a government-issued document, allowing an individual to drive a vehicle.

  • Registration Certificate (RC): Another important document is the vehicle Registration Certificate (R.C.). This government-issued document confirms that the vehicle is registered in the name of the owner.

  • Motor Insurance Certificate: As per the law, every vehicle should have at least third-party car insurance to cover third-party liability in case of any mishap caused by your vehicle. A car insurance certificate acts as proof that your vehicle is insured.

  • Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate: A PUCC confirms that the emissions emitted by the vehicle are within the specified environmental norms. PUCC also helps in understanding the vehicle’s health, maintenance, etc.
