When a motorist breaks a traffic law in Maharashtra, a Maharashtra traffic challan is issued. The state launched ‘One State, One E Challan’ on February 14, 2019 to simplify the complete system of traffic challan management. Since then, when a traffic violation is detected in the state, a Maharashtra e challan is generated and sent immediately to the driver/rider. The digitised system detects the violation through speed guns, advanced cameras, etc.
Upon checking, if you find that the issued e challan Maharashtra is incorrect, you can file a complaint for the same on Parivahan. Perform the following steps to file a complaint against an incorrect challan:
Step 1. Visit the official website of Parivahan eChallan.
Step 2. Click on the “Grievance” tab.
Step 3. Enter the challan number and click on ‘Raise Grievance’.
Step 4. Describe the issue and attach supporting documents (if any).
Step 5. Click on “Submit” to raise the complaint.
Step 6. Jot down the ticket number to further track the complaint status.
Once you have a complaint against the wrongly issued challan, you can easily check its status online by visiting the Parivahan eChallan website.
Here are the steps to follow:
Pending transactions can be checked through Park+ and Parivahan online. To do so, visit Park+ and click on the ‘My Profile’ icon. Access the ‘Orders’ section under ‘Account’. View the complete details by clicking on the particular order/transaction.
Secondly, you can visit Parivahan (https://echallan.parivahan.gov.in/) and select ‘Check Pending Transaction’ under the ‘Check Online Services’ head. Provide the asked details and hit on ‘Get Detail’. Find the pending transactions or perform the prompted actions (if asked).
If the Maharashtra RTO challan status is ‘Pending’, it means that the challan is not yet paid by the individuals. Not paying challan fine on time can lead to these consequences:
In some cases, the status shows ‘Pending’ even after making the payment, which could be due to technical issues. In such cases, you must wait for 48-72 hours and get a proof of the payment done by you for further proceedings.
Wrong-side driving topped the list of traffic violations in Maharashtra as per the records. The other violations include overspeeding cases which have slightly fallen over the years.
The figures for these violations are:
| Violation | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 | 2026 (Till May 31) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wrong-side driving | 21,264 | 71,218 | 69,344 | 98,005 | 52,422 |
| Overspeeding | 14.60 lakh | - | - | 9.52 lakh | 5.89 lakh |

As per the recent and third amendment made by the Central Government to the Central Motor Vehicles Rule, 1989 under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, 5 or more offences in a year will consider the driver/rider as a serious offender and strict action will be taken against him.
Effective from January 01, 2026 this rule can even lead to suspension of DL in case a driver commits 5 or more violations in a year.
Secondly, the traffic challans need to be settled within 45 days (if not wrongly issued) from the date of issuance
