FASTag is an electronic toll collection method where vehicle owners can pay toll charges without having to stop in long queues. Under the National Electronic Toll Collection Program, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched Radio Frequency Identification Technique (RFID) with tags called FASTag.
The FASTag card service is available across India on 600+ toll booths. This step towards digitalization is taken to create an efficient and transparent toll collection process and make the traveler’s life convenient. It might happen to you some times that you’re crossing the toll plaza in India assuming your FASTag card will work, but much to your shock, once you reach the toll booth, you find out that your FASTag is blacklisted. You think, ‘Why is my FASTag blacklisted?’ Well, we have the answer for that. Read on to find out:
Reasons for a FASTag blacklist
1. Insufficient balance:
One of the main reasons for a blacklisted FASTag is insufficient balance in your account. If your FASTag is linked to any of your payment wallets, you might not realise that your wallet is not recharged, which is one of the FASTag blacklisted reasons.
2. Blacklisting by a law enforcement agency:
Sometimes, if your vehicle is on the radar of any law enforcement agency due to frequent rule breaking, your NHAI FASTag blacklist might be happening. If it is for this reason, you will have to find out who or which agency is blocking the FASTag and request the unlisting of the FASTag from the FASTag blacklist.
To activate blacklisted FASTag, please recharge the FASTag as soon as possible. If the problem still persists, please call your bank customer care number toll-free number to understand the reason for the blacklisting. Tackle the problem accordingly depending upon what the NHAI FASTag blacklisted reason, which can be due to lack of sufficient balance or due to restrictions of a law enforcement agency.

If you have sold off your car, call your bank and ask them to close your FASTag account. Once that is done, the new owner will have to purchase a new FASTag in their name for the vehicle.
