HDFC FASTag is linked to the customer's prepaid account. After activation, this tag is attached to the vehicle's windscreen. The device readers at toll plazas use Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to capture the unique FASTag number. When the car drives through the dedicated FASTag lanes at the toll plaza, the installed readers debit the linked wallet account for the applicable toll charges.
There are three types of charges levied on FASTag from HDFC:
Joining Fee: This is the one-time registration charge to activate the FASTag. The current charges are Rs.100, including applicable taxes.
Security Deposit: This is the refundable security against any outstanding toll charges. It can be claimed back at the time of closure of the account after clearing all dues. The amount of deposit varies as per the class of the vehicle.
Threshold Amount: This is the minimum recharge amount applicable at the time of tag activation. The threshold amount also varies depending on the vehicle class.
