The second-gen VF8 gains a more powerful 228hp front motor despite a smaller 60.13kWh battery, resulting in a reduced NEDC-claimed range of 500km.
VinFast has trimmed the VF8's overall dimensions considerably and redesigned the interior.
VinFast has revealed the second-generation VF8 electric SUV in Vietnam, and the update goes well beyond a simple facelift. This is a proper generational step, making the VF8 the first model in VinFast's lineup to be fully renewed.
With a leaner body, a more expressive face, and a comprehensively reworked cabin, the new VF8 signals a maturing direction for the Vietnamese electric carmaker.
A Smaller Battery But a More Powerful Motor Under the Bonnet
228hp Front Motor Paired With a 60.13kWh Battery and a 500km NEDC Range
The second-generation VF8 is powered by a front-axle-mounted electric motor producing 228hp and 330Nm of torque, paired with a 60.13kWh battery pack.
VinFast claims an NEDC range of 500km and states the battery can be charged from 10 to 70 per cent in under 30 minutes. The outgoing model, by comparison, used a larger 87.7kWh battery and was available in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations.
Its front-wheel drive variant produced 201hp and 310Nm, giving the new car an 18hp and 20Nm advantage in outright output, though the NEDC range has dropped by 62km from the previous figure of 562km.
A Leaner, More Aggressive Exterior With Redesigned Proportions
Shorter and Narrower Overall, With a Fresh Face and 19-Inch Alloys
The new VF8 has shed some size in the transition. Its length now stands at 4,701mm, width at 1,872mm, and the wheelbase has been trimmed to 2,840mm, making it 49mm shorter, 62mm narrower, and 110mm reduced in wheelbase compared to the outgoing model. Height has crept up by 3mm to 1,670mm, and ground clearance has grown from 162mm to 170mm.
At the front, segmented eyebrow-shaped daytime running lamps connected by a V-shaped lightbar give the VF8 a noticeably sharper and more purposeful look. The blacked-out grille flows naturally into the bumper, with air vents positioned low to manage cooling for the EV's mechanicals.
The car rides on redesigned 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, and the rising windowline adds drama to the profile. Gloss-black cladding runs along the wheel arches and lower door edges, while at the rear, larger tail-lights carry VinFast's signature V-shaped LED strip set against a contrasting black trim surround.
A Redesigned Interior That Gains a Driver's Display but Loses Screen Real Estate
12.9-Inch Infotainment, a New 2-Spoke Steering Wheel, and a Full ADAS Suite
Inside, the cabin has been redesigned from the ground up. The centrepiece is a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is smaller than the previous model's 15.6-inch unit, though the new generation compensates by adding a dedicated digital driver's display.
A new 2-spoke steering wheel is fitted, and the drive selector continues to operate via a column-mounted stalk. Equipment highlights include dual-zone climate control with an integrated air purifier, a 6-way electrically adjustable driver's seat with a memory function, and an 8-speaker sound system.
On the safety front, the new VF8 comes equipped with a full advanced driver assistance system suite, a 360-degree camera, and an electronic parking brake.
Price and Prospects of an Indian Market Launch
The second-generation VF8 is priced at 999 million Vietnamese dong in its home market, which translates to roughly Rs 36.5 lakh excluding applicable taxes and duties. An Indian market launch, at this stage, appears unlikely.
