Karnataka Offers 50% Off on Pending Traffic Fines

The Karnataka government has launched a 20-day window allowing vehicle owners to clear long-pending traffic e-challan fines at half the prescribed amount. Running from June 21 to July 10, 2026, the scheme covers police-issued e-challans raised before May 2026 and Transport Department penalty cases dating as far back as 1991. With an estimated Rs 2,827 crore still recoverable across the state, the initiative is part of a broader push to reduce the mounting backlog ahead of the National Lok Adalat.

  • Over 75,487 pending traffic e-challan cases were settled across Karnataka in just the first two days of the state's 50% fine concession scheme.

  • The scheme, effective from June 21, 2026, allows vehicle owners to clear pending fines at half the prescribed amount until July 10, 2026.

If you have been putting off clearing a stack of unpaid traffic challans, the Karnataka government has handed you a very good reason to act now. A 50 per cent concession on pending traffic e-challan fines is on the table for a limited 20-day window, and the early numbers suggest motorists are taking full advantage.

Strong Start as 75,487 Cases Are Settled in Two Days

The response in the opening weekend alone has been telling. A total of 75,487 pending traffic e-challan cases were settled across Karnataka on Sunday and Monday, the first two days of the scheme coming into effect.

According to a press note issued by Bengaluru Traffic Police, Rs 2.24 crore was collected through various prescribed modes of payment during that two-day period. It is a sizable early haul, and the window still has the better part of three weeks remaining.

What the Scheme Covers and Who Can Benefit

The concession was granted through a Government Order dated June 4, and it provides a 50 per cent reduction in fines for pending traffic e-challan cases registered by the police department. The scheme came into effect on June 21, 2026, and runs until July 10, 2026. The benefit has also been extended to cases recorded by the Transport Department between 1991 and 2022 that remain unpaid, meaning the scope is far wider than just recent violations.

The decision followed a proposal from the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, timed ahead of the National Lok Adalat scheduled for July 11, 2026.

Rs 2,827 Crore Still Unpaid Across the State

The early momentum is welcome, but the scale of what remains outstanding puts things in context. The Karnataka State Legal Services Authority had informed the government that despite previous settlement drives, an estimated Rs 2,827 crore is still recoverable across pending cases.

During the last concession period in November-December 2025, over 77.4 lakh traffic violation cases were settled, resulting in the collection of nearly Rs 201 crore in fines. The government will be hoping the current scheme builds similar momentum over its remaining days.

How Vehicle Owners Can Settle Their Dues

The process is reasonably simple. Vehicle owners can use the Karnataka State Police application or the BTP ASTRaM app to check for pending challans and initiate payment. Those who prefer to handle it in person can visit the nearest police station or traffic management centre. Bengaluru residents also have the option of using Karnataka One or Bangalore One platforms to complete the process.

A Tight Deadline Worth Keeping in Mind

The concession window closes on July 10, 2026, with the National Lok Adalat following immediately on July 11. For anyone sitting on an unresolved challan, the arithmetic is straightforward, settle now at half the cost, or risk paying the full amount later. With over 75,000 cases cleared in just the opening two days, the message appears to be getting through.
