Karnataka's limited-period 50% traffic fine waiver covers police e-challans raised before May 2026 and Transport Department cases from 1991 to 2022.
Motorists can clear dues through the KSP app, BTP ASTraM app, police stations, or designated city counters before the July 10, 2026, deadline.
If you have a stack of unpaid traffic challans gathering dust, now is probably the time to deal with them. The Karnataka government has announced a special scheme under Order No. TD 27 TDO 2023, allowing anyone with unpaid traffic e-challans issued by the police before May 2026 to settle the matter by paying just 50% of the outstanding amount. The concession window runs from June 21, 2026, to July 10, 2026, giving motorists roughly three weeks to act.
What Fines Are Covered Under This Scheme
The rebate is not restricted to recent violations alone. It covers both police-issued e-challans raised before May 2026 and Transport Department cases registered between 1991 and 2022, which means a considerable number of vehicle owners across Karnataka stand to benefit.
The total value of pending fines eligible for this discount stands at Rs 2,827 crore, a figure that underlines just how significant the backlog of unresolved cases has become over the years.
Why the Government Is Offering This Concession
The scheme did not emerge out of thin air. The decision follows a proposal by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority to help clear the volume of pending cases clogging the system. There is also a track record to point to here.
A similar scheme run in November 2023 successfully disposed of 77,41,050 cases and collected Rs 201 crore in fines. That precedent clearly gave the government confidence that another amnesty-style window would encourage compliance at scale.
How to Check and Pay Your Pending Challans
Paying under this scheme is fairly straightforward. Motorists can download the Karnataka State Police (KSP) application or the BTP ASTraM app to check details of their pending challans and use either platform to settle the dues. Those who prefer an in-person route can visit the nearest police station or traffic management centre to initiate payment with the help of officials on-site.
Offline and Other Payment Options
For those who would rather not deal with apps, there are alternatives. Bengaluru residents can use KarnatakaOne or BangaloreOne centres to complete the payment process. The variety of channels available means there is very little reason to miss the window, regardless of how comfortable one is with digital tools.
The July 10 deadline is firm, and given the scale of the rebate on offer, waiting until the last moment is a gamble not worth taking. For anyone with outstanding challans, getting this sorted now means half the fine.
