BMW X1 LWB Bookings Open Ahead of August 21 Launch

BMW has begun accepting bookings in India for the X1 LWB, a stretched version of its entry-level luxury SUV, weeks before its scheduled debut on August 21, 2026. The long-wheelbase model, already familiar to Indian buyers through the electric iX1 LWB, will become the brand's most accessible combustion-engined long-wheelbase offering here, promising extra rear space and refined comfort for the segment.

  • BMW has opened bookings for the X1 LWB in India before its August 21, 2026 launch

  • The stretched SUV brings extra cabin room and will be BMW's most affordable long-wheelbase combustion model here

BMW has started taking bookings for the X1 long-wheelbase SUV in India, arriving weeks before its official launch on August 21, 2026. The X1 LWB is essentially a stretched rendition of the standard X1 and serves as the petrol and diesel counterpart to the iX1 LWB electric SUV, which is already on sale locally. Once launched, this model will become BMW's most attainable combustion-powered long-wheelbase offering in the country.

BMW X1 LWB Exterior Features

Originally developed with the Chinese market in mind, the X1 LWB measures 4,616mm in length, 1,845mm in width and 1,641mm in height, riding on a 2,802mm wheelbase. Against the regular X1, that works out to 116mm more length, 110mm of additional wheelbase and a 11mm bump in height. Visually, the changes are subtle, with the familiar sleek LED lighting units, large kidney grille and a low, crossover-like stance carried over largely unchanged.

Wheel sizes in China run from 19-inch alloys as standard up to optional 20-inch units, though BMW may fit smaller rims on the India-spec car for the sake of ride comfort, mirroring the 18-inch wheels already used on the standard X1 and iX1 LWB sold locally.

BMW X1 LWB Interior Space And Features

Step inside and the cabin layout mirrors that of the regular X1, though rear occupants stand to gain the most from the added length. Legroom improves noticeably, seat height rises by 27mm and the headrest cushioning grows 37mm wider for better comfort on longer drives. Boot capacity also swells to 540 litres, a useful jump over the 476 litres offered in the standard SUV.

On the equipment front, expect a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, along with wireless phone charging, powered and climate-controlled front seats, and a powered tailgate. A digital key function, a Harman Kardon audio system, connected car features and automatic park assist are also likely additions.

BMW X1 LWB Engine And Transmission Options

The regular India-spec X1 currently offers a 136hp 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol unit and a 150hp 2-litre four-cylinder diesel motor. The China-spec X1 LWB, however, runs a different setup entirely, offered as the sDrive25Li and xDrive25Li, both powered by a 204hp, 300Nm 2-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Performance figures for the China-spec car show the front-wheel-drive sDrive25Li completing the 0 to 100kph sprint in 7.9 seconds, while the all-wheel-drive xDrive25Li does it in 7.7 seconds. Both variants share a top speed of 229kph.

BMW X1 LWB Expected Price And Market Positioning

With the standard X1 currently priced between Rs 50.9 lakh and Rs 52.9 lakh in India, the LWB variant is likely to sit a notch above that range, and the gap could widen further should BMW bring the more potent 2-litre turbo-petrol engine to Indian showrooms.

Crucially, the X1 LWB will enter a space with no direct long-wheelbase rivals among entry-level luxury SUVs, giving BMW a fairly clear run in this niche for now.
