Tata Sierra EV QWD Dual Motor Variant Confirmed

With its launch just days away, Tata Motors has dropped a new teaser for the Sierra EV that does far more than tease design details. The latest video sees the all-electric SUV charging through desert sand, and more importantly, sports a "QWD Dual Motor" badge on its tailgate. This confirms that Sierra EV will arrive with an all-wheel-drive, dual-motor powertrain, making it only the second Tata EV after the Harrier EV to feature the brand's Quad Wheel Drive technology.

  • Tata Motors confirms the Sierra EV will be offered with a QWD Dual Motor powertrain, ahead of its June 30, 2026, launch.

  • The new teaser highlights off-road performance over design, showing the electric SUV navigating loose desert terrain with confidence.

Tata Motors has released a fresh teaser for the Sierra EV ahead of its official launch on June 30, 2026, and this time, it is all about performance.

A "QWD Dual Motor" badge is clearly visible on the tailgate in one of the frames, formally confirming that the Sierra EV will be available with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup. This makes it only the second Tata EV, after the Harrier EV, to feature the company's Quad Wheel Drive technology.

Desert Teaser Puts the Focus Squarely on Performance

Unlike the earlier teaser that centred on design, this new video is clearly intended to showcase the Sierra EV's capability in demanding conditions. The SUV is shown powering through loose desert sand, kicking up thick plumes of dust and appearing to line up for a dune climb. It is a deliberate, pointed message from Tata about what the dual-motor variant brings to the table.

On loose surfaces like sand, distributing power across all four wheels makes a tangible difference. It improves traction, keeps the vehicle stable, and reduces the likelihood of getting stuck, advantages that a front-wheel-drive setup simply cannot match.

Several shots in the teaser also offer a cleaner look at the Sierra EV's rear profile, including its connected LED tail lamps and aerodynamic alloy wheel design.

Powertrain Likely Borrowed From Harrier EV

Tata Motors has not yet revealed official technical specifications for the Sierra EV, but the SUV is widely expected to share its electric powertrain architecture with the Harrier EV. This could mean battery pack options of up to 75 kWh, alongside both single-motor and dual-motor configurations.

QWD Flagship to Deliver Serious Performance Figures

The QWD variant is expected to sit at the top of the range as the flagship trim. If it draws from the same setup as the Harrier EV, power output should be considerably higher than anything else in Tata's current EV portfolio, with torque figures potentially nearing the 500 Nm mark. That would place the Sierra EV in a strong position against performance-oriented electric SUVs in India.

Interior and Features Round Out a Strong Package

On the design front, the Sierra EV gets EV-specific touches such as a closed-off front grille and an increased use of body-coloured surfaces, while the core styling remains shared with the Sierra ICE.

Inside, it is expected to carry the same triple-screen dashboard layout as its petrol counterpart, along with a soundbar-style audio system featuring JBL speakers with Dolby Atmos, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, a powered tailgate, an advanced ADAS suite, and an augmented reality head-up display.

With the launch now less than a fortnight away, Tata Motors is clearly building momentum. The confirmation of a dual-motor QWD option signals that Sierra EV is not just a lifestyle product but a genuine all-terrain electric SUV with the hardware to back that claim up.
