Jaguar will officially name its upcoming Type 00 electric GT on May 12, 2026, before its full production reveal in September.
Built on Jaguar's new JEA platform, the Type 00 will deliver over 1,000hp with a 700km WLTP range and an India launch possible by early 2028.
Jaguar has confirmed that the production name of its much-anticipated electric grand tourer, currently known as the Type 00, will be officially announced on Tuesday, May 12 2026. This is a deliberate, phased approach to building excitement, with the complete production-spec car then set to be unveiled in September 2026. It is a strategy that keeps enthusiasts and industry observers guessing just a little longer, though the wait, judging by what has already been revealed, appears well worth it.
The Type 00 will be the first vehicle Jaguar launches following its controversial all-electric rebrand in late 2024, a transformation that drew significant attention and no shortage of debate. With this car, the marque is clearly looking to make a statement that is both technically impressive and visually compelling.
A New Platform, Extraordinary Performance Figures
Jaguar revealed earlier in 2026 that the Type 00 will be built on the Jaguar Electric Architecture, or JEA, a purpose-built EV platform developed entirely in-house. This is not an adapted existing architecture but a clean-sheet design intended to form the backbone of Jaguar's electric future.
The performance credentials are striking. A triple-motor configuration will produce in excess of 1,000hp and 1,300Nm of torque. Jaguar also claims a WLTP-certified range of 700km on a full charge, along with the ability to recover 321km of range in just 15 minutes of charging.
Ride quality has not been overlooked either, with air suspension and twin-valve active dampers confirmed as part of the package.
Classic Proportions, a Four-Door Twist on the Concept
Camouflaged test cars spotted on public roads have offered a reasonably clear picture of how the production Type 00 will look. The design stays true to the spirit of the original Type 00 concept, with a long bonnet, short rear overhang, slab-sided body and a gently sloping roofline. It is a silhouette that looks undeniably like a Jaguar, which will come as a relief to those who worried the rebrand might stray too far from the marque's heritage.
One notable departure from the concept, however, is the door count. Whereas the original show car was a dramatic two-door, the production version will arrive as a four-door grand tourer, a decision that broadens its appeal considerably without sacrificing the fundamental elegance of the design.
India in the Frame for a Late 2027 or Early 2028 Arrival
For the Indian market, Jaguar is expected to bring the production Type 00 sometime between late 2027 and early 2028. Given the significance of this car to the brand's reinvention, it would be surprising if India were left waiting too long after the global launch. The exact timeline will depend on how quickly Jaguar can ramp up production and navigate market-specific regulations.
