Maruti Suzuki Swift, one of the most sought-after hatchbacks, is in its third generation in India. The cost of the Swift starts from ₹5.99 lakh and can go upto ₹8.98 lakh. Swift is loved by people across the country. Due to its design and performance, it has appealed to over 2.5 million customers and has won the ICOTY award thrice!
That being said, is it worth buying the Swift in 2023? Let's explore Maruti Suzuki Swift's pros and cons for you to make a better decision.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Pros
Maruti Suzuki Swift has a lot of advantages when it comes to its competitors in the hatchback segment. Let's list down the major ones for you:
1. Swift has got the looks
Maruti Suzuki Swift is one of the best-looking hatchbacks in the segment without a doubt. The segment, which has cars like Tata Tiago, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, etc., does need a car that looks like the Maruti Suzuki Swift. Moreover, you get a lot of colour options with Swift.
2. It is features-loaded
The 2022 Maruti Suzuki Swift gets a lot of features such as SmartPlay Studio infotainment system, cruise control, smart keyless entry, push start-stop button, semi-digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, steering mounted controls, and much more!
3. Maruti Suzuki Swift is peppy
It gets a peppy Advanced K series 1,197cc engine that is capable of producing 89.73 ps of power and 113 Nm of torque. This is one of the most powerful engines in the segment and also has a CNG option.
The best part is that the Swift offers great mileage. You will get a mileage of 23.76 kmpl with the petrol engine. If you choose the CNG version, you can get up to 30.9 km/kg of mileage, the highest mileage in the segment.
4. Swift offers a great resale value
The Swift is a Maruti Suzuki car. And the brand Maruti Suzuki is known to have one of the best resale values in the country. Thanks to the superb after-sales network and spare parts availability, Swift commands a good resale value.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Cons
There's no doubt that Swift is a great car. But like any other car, the Swift has both pros and cons. It's time we take a look at the Maruti Suzuki Swift's disadvantages.
1. Features restricted to top variants
Maruti Suzuki Swift does offer a lot of features, but most of them are restricted to the top variants. If you plan on buying the base or the mid variants, be ready to compromise as you won't be getting all the features.
2. Baleno and Swift are too close!
Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Maruti Suzuki Swift have price overlapping for some variants. This puts buyers in a dilemma as Baleno offers a lot more features and space inside the cabin than the Swift. Moreover, Baleno is offered through the Nexa channel. Thus, if you buy a Baleno, you get Maruti's premium ownership experience.
3. No CNG option for the loaded variant
This has been an issue with the majority of Maruti Suzuki CNG cars. If you plan to buy a Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG, you will have to settle for the base or mid variant as the top ZXI+ variant has no option for CNG. Tata Tiago, a competitor, on the other hand, offers a fully-loaded CNG variant as well!
4. Some common features are still missing
Features such as rear armrests, rear AC vents, TPMS, wireless phone charger, etc. are still missing from the Swift. We do expect these features to be added in the anticipated 2023 Maruti Suzuki Swift.
5. Safety features not up to the mark
Maruti Suzuki Swift does offer safety features such as dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, reverse parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, high-speed alert alarm, and speed sensing door lock as standard. But, when Global NCAP crash-tested the Swift, it returned with a disappointing 2-star rating.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Pros and Cons: Verdict
Should you buy Maruti Suzuki Swift? No matter how many pros and cons we weigh, an affordable car with high popularity ratings is generally a good choice. It does ring bells when we see the safety rating of the Maruti Suzuki Swift. If safety is a concern for you, it'll be better to splurge a little on the top variants or go for a different car altogether.
