- The 2026 Honda City receives its second mid-lifecycle update with new styling, added features and prices spanning Rs 11.99 lakh to Rs 20.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
- Honda simultaneously unveils the ZR-V e:HEV, a globally sold hybrid SUV imported as a CBU, as its new flagship product for the Indian market.
Honda Cars India made a decisive statement on 22 May 2026, launching the refreshed City sedan and unveiling the all-new ZR-V e:HEV flagship SUV at the same event. The double launch is part of a revised strategy from the Japanese automaker, which had previously acknowledged that its global-first approach for India had not delivered the intended results.
A Completely Redesigned Front End Gives the City a More Purposeful Look
The 2026 Honda City marks the second mid-lifecycle update for the fifth-generation model, which first arrived in 2020. The changes this time are far more comprehensive than a simple touch-up.
A completely new front fascia features sleeker headlamps with a two-part brow-like LED DRL signature connected by a light bar running across a fresh honeycomb-patterned grille. Honda says the headlamps now project beams that are both longer and wider. A new body-coloured panel replaces the chrome trim of the outgoing car, and the bumper gains a wider central air intake along with new triangular intakes at the corners.
At the rear, a new two-tone bumper and body-coloured faux diffuser complete the update, while fresh dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels and a new Crystal Black Pearl colour option round off the exterior changes.
The Cabin Gets Meaningful New Additions Alongside Familiar Fundamentals
Inside, the City gains a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen, a 360-degree camera and ventilated front seats, three features that should keep it competitive against some freshly updated rivals. These sit alongside an 8-speaker sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, ambient lighting and a sunroof.
The Level 2 Honda Sensing ADAS suite, six airbags and rain-sensing wipers carry over unchanged. Mechanically, the City continues with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol producing 121 PS and 145 Nm, offered with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT, and a 1.5-litre e:HEV strong-hybrid producing 126 PS and 253 Nm with a claimed efficiency of 27.26 km/l.
Honda has thrown in a 5-year warranty on all hybrid components. Prices run from Rs 11.99 lakh for the base SV petrol manual to Rs 20.99 lakh for the flagship ZX+ e:HEV, all ex-showroom.
The ZR-V Brings a Globally Proven Hybrid SUV to Indian Roads for the First Time
The ZR-V e:HEV is not a product built specifically for India. It is a global SUV that Honda launched in 2022 and has since sold over 8 lakh units internationally. It arrives here as a Completely Built Unit and represents Honda's first all-new product in the Indian market after a gap of three years.
Bookings are now open, and deliveries are expected to commence around July 2026. The SUV measures 4,568 mm in length with a 2,657 mm wheelbase, and it offers over 1,000 litres of boot space with the rear seats folded flat.
A Generously Equipped Cabin That Justifies the Premium Positioning
The interior leans into a minimalist all-black design, with soft-touch materials, leatherette-wrapped seats and carbon-fibre-finished trim on the dashboard. Equipment includes a 9-inch touchscreen, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, multi-zone climate control, ventilated seats, an 8-way power driver's seat, a hands-free power tailgate with walk-away closing, a panoramic sunroof, 11 airbags, a 360-degree camera and Honda Sensing ADAS with a lane change monitor.
The centre console adopts a floating bridge-type design, and the traditional gear lever has been swapped out for a push-button selector.
A 2.0-Litre Hybrid Powertrain That Is Both Quick and Efficient
The ZR-V is powered by a 2.0-litre direct-injection sports hybrid engine producing 184 PS and 315 Nm, mated to an eCVT gearbox.
Honda claims a 0 to 100 km/h time of 7.9 seconds and a fuel efficiency figure of 22.80 km/l. The system operates in pure EV mode for shorter distances before switching seamlessly to the petrol engine, with the battery continuously recharging itself during engine operation.
India Now Sits Among Honda's Top Three Global Focus Markets
Honda has confirmed six strategic launches for India in 2026 as part of its sharper local focus. The City continues to lock horns with the Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus in the sedan segment, while the ZR-V sets its sights on premium rivals such as the Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Kodiaq.
