Mercedes-Benz India has launched Night Edition variants of the GLE and GLS SUVs across four powertrain options, priced at a premium of Rs 3.3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh over standard models.
The GLE Night Edition introduces Airmatic suspension to a 4-cylinder variant for the first time, while both models gain a HUD as standard equipment.
Mercedes-Benz India has officially launched Night Edition versions of its GLE and GLS SUVs, adding a layer of exclusivity to two of the most popular models in its Indian line-up.
The GLE Night Edition is priced at Rs 1.05 crore (ex-showroom) for the 300d diesel and Rs 1.14 crore for the 450 petrol. The GLS Night Edition, being the larger of the two, commands Rs 1.41 crore for the 450 petrol and Rs 1.43 crore for the 450d diesel.
When measured against their respective standard variants, the Night Edition premium ranges from Rs 3.3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, depending on the model and fuel type, with the GLE diesel attracting the highest additional cost. Given the equipment on offer, that figure is fairly reasonable for buyers already operating in this segment.
Blacked-Out Styling That Means Business
Both the GLE and GLS Night Editions follow a darkened visual theme that has become something of a signature for special editions in the luxury SUV world. Exterior colour choices are limited to just two options: Obsidian Black and Alpine Grey, the latter being exclusive to the Night Edition range.
The dark aesthetic continues through gloss black finishes on the front bumper, black-finished ORVMs, and a black roof, all contributing to a sportier, more aggressive stance without altering the fundamental proportions of either SUV.
Inside, the cabin carries the same thread through black Nappa leather upholstery, black door sills, and Anthracite open-pore Oak wood trims. It is a well-considered interior package that feels cohesive rather than merely cosmetic.
Equipment Upgrades That Go Beyond Aesthetics
The Night Editions are not simply about darker paint and black trim. Both the GLE and GLS Night Editions receive a Heads-Up Display as standard, something that is not available on their regular counterparts.
The GLS Night Edition additionally gets rear entertainment screens, making it a more compelling proposition for those who frequently travel with passengers in the third row or rear seats.
A First for the GLE Diesel
Perhaps the most technically noteworthy aspect of the GLE Night Edition is the inclusion of Airmatic air suspension. This is the first time Mercedes-Benz has offered Airmatic suspension on a GLE equipped with a 4-cylinder engine in India.
Previously, the system was restricted to the 6-cylinder variants, making this a genuine engineering first for the model in the market and a meaningful differentiator for prospective GLE diesel buyers.
Powertrains Remain Unchanged
Mechanically, the Night Editions carry over their existing powertrains without modification. The GLE 300d is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel producing 225 bhp, while the GLE 450 uses a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol unit putting out 380 bhp.
The GLS 450 shares the same 380 bhp petrol engine, and the GLS 450d runs a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel rated at 367 bhp. All four variants come equipped with 4Matic all-wheel drive and a 9-speed automatic gearbox, with Airmatic suspension fitted across the board.
