2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Facelift to Launch in India on 15 June

Mercedes-Benz is bringing the updated S-Class to India on 15 June, and this time, the flagship saloon arrives first as a plug-in hybrid rather than a conventional petrol or diesel. The S 450e with EQ Hybrid Technology marks a significant moment for the brand in India, pairing effortless luxury with an electrified powertrain that promises up to 100 kilometres of pure-electric driving in ideal conditions.

  • The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift will go on sale in India on 15 June as the brand's first non-AMG plug-in hybrid.

  • The S 450e variant pairs a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol inline-six with an electric motor, producing 435hp and 680Nm with a claimed electric-only range of up to 100km.

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift is officially headed to India, with a launch date locked in for 15 June. The updated flagship saloon arrives with a revised design, a new electronic architecture, and fresh powertrain options, one of which makes this particular launch genuinely noteworthy for the Indian market.

India Receives the Plug-In Hybrid Variant Before Petrol or Diesel Options

For the first time, Mercedes-Benz is launching a plug-in hybrid model in India outside of its AMG performance range.

The S-Class facelift will go on sale as the S 450e with EQ Hybrid Technology, making it a landmark arrival in the Indian luxury car segment. Conventional petrol and diesel powertrain options are expected to be introduced at a later stage, but the brand has clearly chosen to lead with electrification on this occasion.

This decision speaks to a broader shift in how premium car manufacturers are approaching the Indian market. Rather than treating hybrid technology as a secondary or supplementary offering, Mercedes-Benz is putting its plug-in powertrain front and centre in the most prestigious saloon it sells here.

The S 450e Powertrain in Detail

A Six-Cylinder Heart with Electric Assistance

Under the bonnet of the S 450e sits a 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol inline-six engine, working in tandem with an electric motor.

Together, they produce a combined output of 435hp and 680Nm of torque, figures that are more than adequate for a car of this stature. The system draws on a 22kWh battery pack, which Mercedes-Benz claims can deliver up to 100 kilometres of pure-electric driving under ideal conditions.

In real-world use, that number will naturally vary, but it remains a strong headline figure for those who want to minimise fuel consumption during daily urban driving.

Design and Architecture Updates Round Out the Package

Beyond the powertrain, the S-Class facelift also receives several design revisions and a new electronic architecture, though specific details on those changes will become clearer at the time of the official launch on 15 June.

What to Expect at Launch

With the existing S-Class currently priced between Rs 1.85 crore and Rs 1.95 crore, the S 450e is likely to command a premium given its plug-in hybrid credentials and the additional technology it brings. Pricing will be announced on launch day.

The 2026 S-Class facelift is shaping up to be one of the more interesting luxury car launches of the year in India, not merely as a refreshed product, but as a statement of intent about the direction the segment is heading.
