BMW India has opened bookings for the BMW M2 xDrive Turbo Edition, a limited-run version of its sports coupe. Allocations will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. The company has not announced the India price yet, with further details expected in the coming weeks.
A Tribute to the Original BMW 2002 Turbo
Introduced in 1973, the BMW 2002 Turbo was Europe's first series-production passenger car equipped with an exhaust-gas turbocharger. Its 2.0-litre engine produced 170 bhp, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.0 seconds and reach a top speed of 211 km/h.
The new M2 xDrive Turbo Edition references the original model through its colour scheme and bonnet detailing. It is finished in Alpine White, one of the two colours offered on the 1973 car, and features hand-painted BMW Motorsport stripes. The bonnet has a black power dome with the word “Turbo” written in reverse.
On the original 2002 Turbo, the reversed lettering was designed to appear correctly in the rear-view mirrors of vehicles ahead.
BMW M2 xDrive Turbo Edition: Exterior Design
Beyond the historical references, the special edition gets a ‘turbo’ emblem beneath the M2 badge, along with Motorsport stripes across the bonnet. It also features a carbon-fibre roof, tailgate and rear spoiler.
Buyers can opt for 19-inch front and 20-inch rear M Performance forged alloy wheels finished in Gold Bronze. These components add to the edition's specific exterior specification.
Cabin Features and Equipment
Inside, the special edition gets M Carbon bucket seats, an M Alcantara steering wheel and carbon-fibre interior trim. An exclusive ‘turbo’ badge is integrated into the centre cupholder cover.
These details distinguish the edition from the standard M2 while reflecting the design theme of the original 2002 Turbo.
Engine and Performance
The BMW M2 xDrive Turbo Edition uses a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 480 bhp and 600 Nm of torque. It is paired with an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels through BMW's xDrive system.
BMW claims a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 3.7 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. With the optional M Driver's Package, the top speed increases to 285 kph.
