Nissan Tekton Debut India Set for July 09, 2026

Three years after pulling the Kicks from the Indian market, Nissan is gearing up for a confident return to the mid-size SUV segment. The Tekton, a badge-engineered derivative of the Renault Duster, is set to make its official India debut on July 09 2026, bringing with it Patrol-inspired styling, a feature-rich cabin and a familiar set of turbocharged petrol powertrains to take on one of the country's most competitive car segments.

  • The Nissan Tekton draws its design inspiration from the flagship Patrol SUV, while borrowing its platform and powertrains from the Renault Duster.

  • The mid-size SUV is expected to be priced in a similar bracket to the Duster, slotting into a segment crowded with some of the country's best-selling cars.

Nissan India has confirmed that the Tekton will make its official debut on July 09, 2026, marking the brand's return to the mid-size SUV segment following the discontinuation of the Kicks in 2023. It has been a long wait, but the Japanese manufacturer is stepping back in with a product that has a solid foundation beneath it. The Tekton is essentially Nissan's badge-engineered take on the Renault Duster, which is already available in the Indian market.

Exterior Design Borrows Cues from the Nissan Patrol

Nissan partially revealed the Tekton's exterior design last year, and it cuts quite a different silhouette from the Duster. Up front, the fascia draws inspiration from the flagship Nissan Patrol SUV, with LED headlamps, connected LED daytime running lights, a wide grille featuring two chrome strips, and a dual-tone bumper. The Tekton name also appears on the muscular-looking bonnet.

Along the sides, the profile is nearly identical to the Duster's, featuring squarish wheel arches, black trim on the front doors, bulges on the rear doors, and rear door handles integrated into the window line. The alloy wheels are expected to measure 18 inches across and carry a unique design.

At the back, a connected LED tail-lamp setup, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a dual-tone bumper finish off the look, though the tailgate itself gets a single-tone finish, unlike the Duster's two-tone treatment.

A Feature-Packed Interior with a Distinctive Three-Tone Finish

Inside, Nissan has teased a dashboard finished in soft-touch materials, with blue and black accents complemented by a copper-coloured strip running across the cabin. The layout is expected to mirror the Duster's driver-focused arrangement, with the infotainment screen angled towards the driver.

If the feature set follows that of the Duster, buyers can look forward to a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control, a powered tailgate, and six-way powered and ventilated front seats. A 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS could also feature.

Powertrain Options Shared with the Renault Duster

Under the bonnet, the Tekton is set to share its engine options with the Duster. These include a 1.0-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol producing 100hp and 166Nm, and a more potent 1.3-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol.

A six-speed manual gearbox is standard across both, while the larger engine also offers a six-speed DCT. Whether Nissan will also bring across the Duster's 1.8-litre strong-hybrid petrol with an e-CVT, which produces 160hp and 172Nm, remains to be confirmed.

Expected Price and the Competitive Landscape It Enters

The Tekton's pricing is expected to fall in a similar range to the Duster, which is currently priced between Rs 10.49 lakh and Rs 18.49 lakh. That puts it squarely in the thick of things, with the Tekton set to go up against the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Tata Sierra, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara and Victoris, Tata Curvv, Citroen Aircross and Basalt, and the MG Astor. It is a tough field, but with a well-proven platform and a distinctive identity of its own, the Tekton could carve out a meaningful space for Nissan in a segment it has been absent from for far too long.
