Month-on-Month Recovery Points to Growing Domestic Demand
Compared with April 2026, when Honda retailed 4,069 units domestically, May saw a sharp sequential improvement to 5,111 units. This translates to a month-on-month rise of 25.61%, or an additional 1,042 units over the previous month.
The back-to-back gains suggest that buyer activity in the domestic passenger vehicle segment held firm through the early weeks of summer.
New City Facelift and ZR-V Showcase Reinforce Honda's Product Push
Commenting on the results, Kunal Behl, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Honda Cars India, noted that despite concerns over rising fuel prices, May proved to be a rewarding month for the brand. He credited part of the performance to the successful launch of the new City facelift, which Honda says has helped reinforce its position in the executive sedan segment.
Alongside the City, Honda also unveiled the ZR-V SUV to Indian audiences during the month. While the ZR-V is not yet on sale domestically, its showcase generated considerable interest and highlighted the breadth of Honda's global SUV portfolio. The company's existing trio of Amaze, City and Elevate continues to anchor domestic volumes month after month.
Honda Outlines Ambitious India Roadmap With 10 New Cars by 2030
The automaker plans to bring in additional completely built-up models in the near term, ahead of the launch of its India-manufactured 0 Alpha electric SUV in 2027.
From 2028, the brand intends to introduce an all-new sub-four-metre SUV and a mid-size SUV, developed to compete in the heart of the Indian market. Taken together, Honda aims to have launched ten new cars in the country by 2030.
While Honda's overall volumes remain well below the top-selling mass-market brands in India, the trajectory over recent months suggests the company is making meaningful progress. A 31% growth rate in May 2026 places Honda among the stronger performers in the passenger vehicle segment for the month, underpinned by both domestic appetite and a growing export footprint.
