Kia Carens family has sold over three lakh units in India since its 2022 launch
Petrol makes up 60 percent of sales, diesel 30 percent and the new Clavis EV 10 percent
Kia India has reason to celebrate this month, with the company confirming that cumulative sales of its Carens range have gone past the three lakh unit mark. It is a significant number for a nameplate that only entered the market in 2022, and it says a lot about how the MPV has managed to hold its own in a segment that keeps getting more crowded by the year.
How The Carens Family Has Grown
What began as a single model has quietly turned into a proper family of vehicles. Kia expanded the range with the Carens Clavis, positioned as a more upmarket alternative, and followed that up with the Carens Clavis EV, which brought electric power into the mix for the first time.
Buyers now get to choose between petrol, diesel and electric versions, something few rivals in this space can currently match.
What Kia Had To Say
Speaking on the achievement, Kia India's Chief Sales Officer, Sunhack Park, said the milestone reflects the model's place as a segment leader and a genuine gamechanger in the MPV space. He credited the result to the brand's product led approach, its understanding of what Indian family buyers actually want, and a continued emphasis on quality. He also added that the achievement strengthens the company's belief that Carens sets the benchmark in its class, and that Kia intends to build further on this momentum.
Where The Sales Are Coming From
Kia's own figures show that petrol variants continue to lead the way, making up 60 percent of total Carens family sales. Diesel isn't far behind at 30 percent, a reminder that oil burner demand hasn't faded quite as quickly as some expected. The Carens Clavis EV, despite being the newest addition, has already carved out a 10 percent share of overall sales.
Interestingly, buyers don't seem to be holding back when it comes to spending either. Top spec trims alone account for 18 percent of total sales, suggesting that a good chunk of customers are willing to pay extra for advanced safety kit, connected features and a more premium cabin experience.
Both the 6 seat and 7 seat layouts continue to find takers, so there's clearly no single formula that's working here.
A Strong Phase For Kia In India
This milestone lands at a good time for Kia, which recently posted its best ever first half sales performance in the country, helped along by the Seltos, Sonet and the growing Carens lineup. The brand isn't slowing down either, with the Syros EV rollout already underway and a Sorento Hybrid SUV confirmed for launch in India in the coming months, further rounding out its electric and hybrid offerings.
