Audi's new Q3 arrives with petrol power and a fresh cabin
MG's Hector Tomahawk EV brings a new platform and a long claimed range
India has two big SUV reveals lined up for August 26, 2026. Audi will show off its third-generation Q3. JSW MG Motor will unveil its first seven-seat electric SUV, likely to be called the Hector Tomahawk. One car runs on petrol, the other on batteries. Together, they give a good sense of where SUVs in India are heading.
Audi Q3 Gets A New Look
This new Q3 is the first of three Audi products set to launch in India this year. The design is not a big departure from before. It gets sharper lines, a bigger grille and a connected tail lamp at the rear. The changes inside are easier to spot. There are two large screens on the dashboard, a new flat-bottom steering wheel and plenty of chrome trim. It still feels like a Q3, just with a smarter finish.
Engine And Variants
The India-spec car is expected to use the same 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine as before. It makes close to 188bhp and 320Nm. Power goes through a seven-speed automatic gearbox with quattro all-wheel drive.
Audi is likely to offer two variants, called Technology and Premium Plus. Rivals include the BMW X1 LWB and a new Mercedes-Benz GLA due next year. Prices are expected to fall between Rs 43 lakh and Rs 53 lakh, though the final numbers will come later this year.
MG Hector Tomahawk EV Brings A New Platform
While Audi is updating an old favourite, MG is starting from scratch. The new SUV, likely called the Hector Tomahawk, will be the first car built on the company's new ADAPT platform. It is based on a model already sold overseas.
Expect it to measure around 4745mm in length with a 2810mm wheelbase, making it a proper seven-seater. Spy shots show a blanked-off grille, connected LED headlamps, chrome door handles and wraparound tail lamps.
Cabin And EV Specs
Inside, the standout feature is a bench-style second-row seat, which is rare for a seven-seater. It also gets a large sunroof, a 12.8-inch touchscreen and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster.
Expect features like a powered tailgate, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, six airbags and Level 2 driver assistance. Power comes from a single motor making 201hp and 310Nm, paired with a 69.2 kWh battery. MG claims a range of up to 530 kilometres, though real-world numbers will need to be tested.
Both cars go on show within a day of each other. We should soon know more about pricing and how they stack up against their rivals.
