Kia Sorento Unofficial Bookings Open Ahead of India Launch

Kia dealerships have quietly begun accepting token bookings for the upcoming Sorento SUV, even as the brand stays tight-lipped officially. With a hybrid powertrain, monocoque platform and flagship positioning, the Sorento is shaping up to be Kia's answer to the Toyota Fortuner when it arrives around late August or early September 2026.

  • Select dealerships have started taking unofficial bookings for a token amount

  • Official launch is tipped for late August or early September 2026

The Kia Sorento appears to be edging closer to its long-awaited India launch. Word from dealer circles suggests that select Kia showrooms have already begun accepting unofficial bookings for the upcoming premium SUV, with customers being asked to pay a token sum of Rs. 50,000 to reserve their spot.

Kia India itself has not put out any formal statement yet, though industry chatter points towards a launch window sometime around the end of August or the first week of September 2026.

A New Flagship With A Different Approach

Once it arrives, the Sorento will give Kia a genuine rival to the Toyota Fortuner in the full-size SUV space, something the brand has lacked so far. What sets it apart, though, is the underlying engineering.

Rather than relying on a traditional ladder-frame chassis like the Fortuner, the Sorento is built on a monocoque platform. This should translate into a more car-like ride and sharper handling, without giving up too much on the practicality front. It is also expected to slot in as Kia's new range-topping SUV for the Indian market.

Hybrid Power With All-Wheel Drive On The Cards

Under the bonnet, the India-spec Sorento is likely to come with a strong hybrid setup, pairing a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor for a combined output of around 230bhp.

Reports also suggest that an all-wheel-drive option could be offered, which would make it one of the rare hybrid SUVs in its segment to come with AWD as a choice.

Loaded Cabin And Driver Assistance Tech

Kia does not appear to be holding back on equipment either. Expect a pair of 12.3-inch displays up front, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, a Bose audio system, dual-zone climate control and wireless smartphone connectivity.

A full suite of Level 2 driver assistance features is also on the cards, bringing the Sorento in line with what buyers now expect at this price point.

Local Assembly Could Keep Pricing Competitive

Interestingly, the Sorento is set to be brought into India in CKD form and assembled domestically. That route typically helps automakers keep costs in check, and industry estimates suggest the SUV could be priced around or under Rs. 45 lakh, ex-showroom.

Should that pricing hold, the Sorento would give buyers a compelling hybrid alternative to the diesel-only Fortuner, while also squaring up against rivals such as the MG Majestor, Jeep Meridian and Skoda Kodiaq.

With bookings already trickling in unofficially and a launch date on the horizon, the coming weeks should bring more clarity on Kia's newest flagship for India.
