Nissan Tekton Caught in Final Testing Ahead of Confirmed July 9 India Launch

Nissan is readying its most anticipated new entrant for the Indian market. The Tekton, a C-segment mid-size SUV, has been caught in near-production form during final road tests. Sharing its platform and powertrains with the all-new Renault Duster, the Tekton brings its own bold design language and a feature-rich cabin to a fiercely competitive segment, with a launch confirmed for July 9, 2026.

- The Nissan Tekton has been spotted in final testing, confirming a July 9, 2026 launch in India as the brand's latest mid-size SUV offering.

- The Tekton will share its powertrains with the all-new Renault Duster, with engine options ranging from a 1.0-litre turbo petrol to a 1.3-litre TCe 160, and a strong hybrid arriving at a later date.

Nissan is getting ready to make a meaningful comeback in India's crowded SUV market. The Tekton, the brand's upcoming mid-size offering, has been spotted undergoing final road tests, with its production silhouette now clearly visible beneath heavy camouflage.

The SUV is set to be officially launched on July 9, 2026, a date that carries added significance given the model was originally planned for a February debut. The shift to a July launch window is widely seen as a more strategic move from a marketing standpoint.

Earlier this year in February 2026, Nissan launched the Gravite MPV in India, signalling the brand's renewed intent in the domestic market. The Tekton is expected to build on that momentum and establish Nissan firmly in the volume-driving C-segment.

Bold Exterior Design Sets the Tekton Apart from Its Renault Sibling

Despite sharing a great deal of its mechanical underpinnings with the new Renault Duster, the Tekton has been developed with its own distinct visual identity. The heavily camouflaged test mule reveals a boxy profile with an upright front fascia that gives it a commanding road presence.

Along the sides, hex-styled wheel arches are fitted with cladding, and the large wheels, flat roof and C-pillar mounted rear door handles all contribute to its purposeful stance.

At the rear, the SUV features a prominent roof-mounted spoiler, a raked windshield and a chunky rear bumper. The Tekton's C-shaped tail lamps are presented in a connected format, lending the rear a contemporary appearance.

Earlier spy shots and teaser images have also revealed top-mounted LED DRLs, a full-width LED light bar and large TEKTON lettering on the bonnet. The front grille is substantial, featuring two full-width chrome strips that converge at the Nissan logo in the centre, with prominent C-shaped inserts on either side of the bumper.

Feature-Rich Cabin Draws from the New Duster's Blueprint

Interior Appointments Expected to Mirror the New Duster With Tekton-Specific Touches

On the inside, the Tekton is expected to carry over most of the key features from the new Duster, though with its own upholstery, dashboard layout and interior theme.

Among the features anticipated are dual screens, front ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, automatic dual-zone air conditioning, an air filter with AQI display and a wireless smartphone charger. It is a well-rounded package that should comfortably meet the expectations of the modern Indian SUV buyer.

Three Powertrain Choices Cater to a Wide Range of Buyers

The Tekton will be offered with multiple engine options depending on the variant. Entry-level trims are expected to come with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing 100 PS and 160 Nm of torque, paired with a manual gearbox. This is a sensible choice for buyers who prioritise efficiency and ease of ownership without sacrificing performance in urban environments.

Higher variants will feature the 1.3-litre turbo petrol TCe 160, which generates 163 PS and 280 Nm. This engine is offered with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DCT.

A strong hybrid E-Tech 160 variant is also planned, comprising a 1.8-litre petrol engine and a 1.4 kWh battery pack, though this will be introduced at a later stage for both the Tekton and the new Duster.

Entering a Fiercely Competitive Segment With an Attractive Price Tag

The Nissan Tekton will compete directly in the 4.2m to 4.5m SUV segment, one of the most contested spaces in the Indian car market. Its rivals will include the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Tata Sierra, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and Honda Elevate.

To stand out in this field, Nissan is expected to price the Tekton aggressively, with the base variant likely to start at around Rs 10 to 11 lakh.

With spy shots confirming the SUV is in its final testing phase and a launch date now firmly on the calendar, the Nissan Tekton is shaping up to be one of the more interesting new launches in the second half of 2026.
