Nissan Tekton, a re-badged Renault Duster with Patrol-inspired styling, is set to debut on July 9, 2026.
A new 7-seater Nissan SUV is expected to arrive in India in 2027, rivalling the Mahindra XUV 7XO and MG Hector Plus.
Nissan India appears to be serious about reclaiming lost ground in the SUV space. The brand has two new SUVs in the pipeline: the Nissan Tekton midsize SUV, which is scheduled to debut on July 9, 2026, and a premium 7-seater model expected to arrive in 2027.
This follows the earlier introduction of the Gravite subcompact MPV, which was positioned as a budget-friendly and practical choice for family car buyers. The upcoming duo signals a more ambitious push into the heart of India's fiercely competitive SUV market.
Nissan Tekton, Duster Underpinnings, Patrol Attitude
The Nissan Tekton is essentially a re-badged version of the Renault Duster, featuring a design language inspired by Nissan's flagship Patrol SUV.
On the outside, it cuts a bold figure. Official teasers have revealed a wide grille with two chrome strips, LED headlamps, connected LED DRLs, and a dual-tone front bumper.
The profile carries pronounced wheel arches and black body cladding, while the rear gets connected LED taillamps, a dual-tone bumper, and a roof-mounted spoiler.
Interior and Features Expected to Mirror the Renault Duster
Step inside, and the cabin story is likely a familiar one. The interior of the Tekton is expected to look largely similar to the Renault Duster, save for Nissan badging on the steering wheel and upholstery, with most features also carried over from its Renault sibling. It is a sensible approach, the Duster's cabin is already well-regarded in its segment, and buyers are unlikely to find much to complain about.
Two Petrol Engines on Offer, Hybrid Possible Later
The Tekton is expected to be offered with a 100bhp 1.0-litre turbo petrol and a 163bhp 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine.
Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual as standard, with a 6-speed DCT available on the 1.3-litre variants. A 160bhp 1.8-litre hybrid powertrain could also join the line-up at a later stage.
7-Seater Nissan SUV to Take On XUV 7XO and Alcazar
The 7-seater Nissan SUV will serve as the brand's flagship offering in India, taking on the Mahindra XUV 7XO, MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar. It is expected to share its visual identity with the Tekton, though it will be longer and more spacious, with an additional third row of seats.
In terms of mechanical options, the SUV is expected to be available with the 1.3-litre turbo petrol and 1.8-litre strong hybrid powertrains, though performance figures may vary slightly owing to its larger dimensions and higher kerb weight. Pricing is expected to reflect its premium positioning, with the 7-seater commanding a premium over its 5-seat counterpart.
With the Tekton's debut just weeks away and a larger sibling already in the works, Nissan's India story looks set for a meaningful new chapter.
