Hyundai Alcazar: Is the Grand SUV Worth The Buy?

Elevate your driving experience with the Hyundai Alcazar – a grand SUV that delivers on both style and substance. Boasting a spacious and feature-rich interior, the Alcazar offers a comfortable ride for the entire family. Its powerful engine options and Hyundai's commitment to safety enhance the overall driving dynamics. If you're in the market for a blend of elegance, performance, and versatility, the Hyundai Alcazar stands out as a compelling choice, making it indeed worth the buy for those seeking a grand SUV experience.

Hyundai Alcazar

Hyundai Alcazar was launched in the Indian market back in June 2021. It has recently been updated with a new TGDi engine which is more powerful and cleaner. So, should you buy a Hyundai Alcazar for yourself? Is it worth the price you have to pay? What are the pros and cons of the Hyundai Alcazar? Let's find out!

Hyundai Alcazar: Pros and Cons

The Hyundai Alcazar is based on the Hyundai Creta and shares its platform with the Kia Seltos. The Hyundai Alcazar has a long list of features, including a sunroof, wireless phone charger, eight-way adjustable driver's seat, hands-free tailgate opening, three-zone climate control, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

The Hyundai Alcazar has a few drawbacks as well. The biggest one is its price. The petrol variant is priced at Rs 16.79 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and the diesel variant is priced at Rs 18.09 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). That's a lot of money for a 7-seater SUV. Another drawback is that it's only available with a 6-speed manual transmission. So, if you want an automatic transmission, you'll have to opt for the petrol variant

Pros of Hyundai Alcazar

  • Powerful and clean new engine: The all-new 1.5-litre TGDi petrol engine is E20 and BS6 phase-2 compliant. Moreover, this engine is really powerful as well as efficient. It produces a power output of 160 ps @ 5,500 RPM and a torque output of 253 NM @ 1,500 - 3,000 RPM. You will get a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. The best part is, this engine also has an option of a 7-speed DCT unit. You will get a great driving experience and a performance-packed thrill as well.
  • Great cabin space: Although it is just 150mm longer than its sibling Hyundai Creta, the Hyundai Alcazar offers great space inside the cabin. Tumble down the third row and you will get a huge boot space.
  • Enhanced safety: Hyundai Alcazar has six airbags as standard. It also has a 360-degree surround camera system which enhances safety.
  • Choice of seat configuration: You get to choose between six-seater and seven-seater configurations. The six-seater gets captain seats in the middle row while the seven-seater one gets a bench-type seat.
  • Loaded with features and tech: Hyundai Alcazar has a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, Bose Surround system, wireless phone charger, automatic climate control, TPMS, air purifier, ventilated front seats, drive modes, auto LED headlamps, fully digital instrument cluster, and a large panoramic sunroof.
  • Excellent ground clearance: Hyundai Alcazar has a ground clearance of 200mm which is good for Indian roads. Moreover, it gets 18-inch alloys which can take on difficult road conditions.
  • A diesel option: You are not going to get just the TGDi engine as an option. You also get an option of a diesel engine. It is a 1.5 litre CRDi diesel engine that is capable of producing 116 ps of power at 4,000 RPM and 250 Nm at 1,500 - 2,750 RPM. This engine will come paired with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard.

    Hyundai Alcazar Disadvantages

Hyundai Alcazar has a lot of advantages to offer. But there are a few disadvantages as well. Let's take a look.

  • Not as powerful: Hyundai Alcazar's diesel engine is not as powerful as its competitors such as Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari. For instance, the diesel mill on Safari produces 168ps and that on the XUV700 produces 185ps. Alcazar on the other hand has a diesel engine that produces just 116ps, which looks puny in front of the competition. In this respect, Hyundai Alacazar is at a disadvantage.
  • A cramped third row: Although the front two rows have good space and the boot space with the seats tumbled down is best in class, the third row offers the least space inside. It is not suitable for adults and even children can have problems fitting in the third row.

These are the two major disadvantages of the Hyundai Alcazar.

Conclusion

Now that you've learnt the pros and cons of Hyundai Alcazar, you can conclude if it is a good fit for you. The Alcazar is a good 6 seater with a huge list of features and a good engine at your disposal. The DCT transmission is smooth and the drive experience is great. But you do have rivals that are giving a strong opposition to the Alcazar. Alcazar surely is an upgrade from the Hyundai Creta and not its rival. Someone looking for more boot space and an added third row can surely choose Alcazar over Creta by paying a small premium. Meanwhile, if you want a diesel engine, you should compare it with the rivals such as Safari and XUV700.
