The Honda City facelift, which is expected in 2026 with refreshed styling, improved interior features, and the continuation of its existing petrol and hybrid powertrains.
Explore the Honda ZR-V hybrid SUV, a flagship CBU import with a strong hybrid system expected to debut in India by late 2026 or early 2027.
A Honda dealership based in North India recently shared an Instagram image showing the camouflaged rear ends of two upcoming models parked side by side. The car on the left has been identified as the refreshed Honda City mid-size sedan, whilst the one on the right appears to be the much-anticipated Honda ZR-V hybrid SUV. It is a telling image, two very different products aimed at two very different buyers, yet together they tell you everything about where Honda is headed in India.
Honda City Facelift, A Familiar Face, Smartly Refreshed
The Honda City needs no introduction in India, and Honda has no intention of reinventing it just yet. The upcoming facelift, expected to arrive sometime in 2026, is a mid-life update designed to keep the sedan relevant until the next-generation model arrives in 2028.
A test mule spotted in Brazil offered the clearest preview so far, revealing a sharper, sportier rear bumper, a set of new alloy wheels, redesigned headlamps, a revised front grille, and an updated front bumper. The overall silhouette remains unchanged, which is entirely expected for a refresh of this nature.
Interior Upgrades and Powertrain Continuity
On the inside, changes are expected to be noticeable rather than transformative. Reports suggest the cabin will receive a full upholstery upgrade, ventilated and powered front seats, and the addition of a 360-degree camera, all of which would meaningfully improve the ownership experience without altering the car's well-regarded layout.
Under the bonnet, nothing changes. The 1.5-litre i-VTEC DOHC four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 121 PS and 145 Nm, carries over alongside its six-speed manual and seven-speed CVT options. The e:HEV hybrid variant, with its 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine and twin electric motor setup, continues as well. Pricing is expected to range from Rs 12 lakh to Rs 20.5 lakh.
Honda ZR-V Hybrid, A Premium Statement SUV for India
The more exciting reveal in that dealership image is undoubtedly the ZR-V. Honda intends to bring this SUV to India as a completely built unit by the end of 2026 or early 2027, and it will go up against the likes of the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line and the Skoda Kodiaq. This is not a car aimed at everyday buyers; it is a brand-builder, a halo product designed to shift perceptions of what Honda can offer at the top end of the market.
A Strong Hybrid System at Its Core
The ZR-V's standout feature is its powertrain. A 2.0-litre naturally aspirated Atkinson-cycle petrol engine works alongside an electric motor through an e-CVT gearbox.
The combustion engine produces 141 PS and 182 Nm, whilst the electric motor delivers a more substantial 184 PS and 315 Nm. The system operates seamlessly between pure electric and petrol modes, with the battery replenishing itself during petrol operation, no plugs required.
Feature-Packed and Positioned at the Top
India is expected to receive only the Z trim, which is the top-specification variant. The feature list is thorough, including a nine-inch touchscreen with Google Assistant integration, Honda Sensing with its full ADAS suite, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, multi-zone climate control, ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, an electric gear selector, an auto-dimming frameless rearview mirror, multiple drive modes, and USB ports throughout the cabin.
At an expected price of Rs 50 to Rs 60 lakh, it is a significant ask, but then, that is precisely the point. The ZR-V is not built for volume; it is built for visibility.
Two Models, One Clear Direction
Taken together, these two cars reveal a Honda that is playing both ends of the market with considered purpose. The City facelift ensures the bread-and-butter volume seller stays competitive, while the ZR-V announces Honda's intentions at the premium level. It is a sensible, well-calibrated strategy, and if the timing holds, Indian buyers will not have long to wait.
