The Jeep Compass Sport base variant has received a series of silent updates in 2026, including 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and a colour instrument cluster, with no change in pricing.
The updates were discovered during a Pre-Delivery Inspection by a buyer, with dealership staff reportedly unaware of the changes.
The Jeep Compass has long served as the most accessible route into Jeep ownership for Indian buyers. Positioned in the premium C-segment SUV space, it has carried the brand's off-road reputation and build quality credentials at a price point that, while not exactly modest, sits well below the fully loaded variants.
For 2026, Jeep appears to have done something rather understated; it has quietly loaded up the base Sport variant with a clutch of meaningful upgrades, while keeping the price exactly where it was.
Prices for the updated Compass Sport continue to start at Rs 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom), which is noteworthy given that what the buyer now receives at that figure is considerably more than what was on offer just a few months ago.
How the Updates Were Discovered, Not at a Launch Event, But at a PDI
What makes this story particularly interesting is how these updates came to light. There was no press release, no official announcement, and no fanfare from Jeep India. The changes were spotted by a buyer named Shanmuga P Mayilvaganan, who noticed the upgrades during his Pre-Delivery Inspection of a freshly delivered Compass Sport.
Notably, the dealership personnel themselves were not aware of these developments, a detail that underscores just how quietly Jeep has rolled out these changes.
The waiting period for the vehicle at the time of booking was reported to be approximately three months.
Two Rounds of Updates Over the Past Few Months
The upgrades appear to have arrived in stages. Looking back around six to seven months, the base Compass Sport came with just two airbags and 17-inch single-tone alloy wheels, the most basic safety and aesthetic specification in the range.
Roughly three weeks prior to the April 2026 discovery, there are recorded instances of the Sport variant receiving six airbags as standard, while still retaining the older 17-inch single-tone alloys.
Then, for April 2026, a second update appears to have come through. The Sport variant now gets 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, the kind previously reserved for top-spec variants such as the Model S, along with a colour instrument cluster, replacing the older LCD unit.
Both updates together represent a meaningful step up for buyers entering the Compass range at its lowest price point.
What the Updated Sport Variant Now Offers
Beyond the headline additions, the Compass Sport continues to carry a solid list of features for its segment. LED reflector headlights, disc brakes on all four wheels, rear washer and wiper, rear defogger, manual climate control, steering-mounted controls, and an infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity are all part of the package.
On the comfort front, front and rear armrests, rear AC vents, adjustable headrests, a height-adjustable driver's seat, and tilt-and-telescopic steering adjustment are present. It is worth noting that the Sport variant comes with a puncture repair kit rather than a spare wheel.
One Engine, One Gearbox, No Surprises Under the Bonnet
Mechanically, nothing has changed. The updated Compass Sport continues with the sole 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 170 PS and 350 Nm of torque, paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
For those seeking an automatic or a four-wheel drive option, the higher variants in the Compass range remain the only path forward.
A Sensible Move in a Fiercely Competitive Market
Silently upgrading a base variant without a price hike is a pragmatic strategy, particularly for a model facing stiff competition from newer and more generously equipped rivals. The additions of six airbags, larger dual-tone alloys, and a colour cluster give the Compass Sport a noticeably stronger pitch to buyers who want genuine Jeep credentials without reaching too far up the trim ladder.
