Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Unveiled in India: New Look, Fresh Tech and a Better Gearbox

Volkswagen has officially revealed the facelifted Taigun in India, bringing a sharper design inspired by its flagship SUVs, a significantly upgraded cabin with a panoramic sunroof and AI-integrated infotainment, and a brand-new 8-speed automatic gearbox for the 1.0 TSI engine. Pre-bookings are now open, though prices are yet to be announced for the most anticipated mid-size SUV update of the year.

  • The 2026 Volkswagen Taigun facelift introduces a redesigned exterior, a feature-loaded cabin, and a new 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox for the 1.0 TSI engine.

  • Pre-bookings are now open in India with amounts ranging from Rs 11,000 to Rs 50,000, although official prices are yet to be announced.

Volkswagen India has officially revealed the Taigun facelift, bringing a comprehensive mid-cycle update to its popular mid-size SUV. The refresh covers revised exterior styling, a host of new features, and a new automatic gearbox for the 1.0-litre TSI engine. It is the first significant update the Taigun has received since it first went on sale in India back in 2021.

Up front, the Taigun facelift draws inspiration from Volkswagen's flagship Tayron R-Line SUV. It sports an illuminated VW badge, new LED headlamps joined by a light bar, a slimmer grille and a redesigned bumper with horizontal slats. The overall silhouette in profile remains unchanged, though the car rides on freshly designed 17-inch alloy wheels.

At the rear, updated LED tail-lamps with sequential turn indicators and a revised bumper round off the cleaner, more contemporary look, with illuminated VW logos featured at both ends.

GT variants receive their own distinct treatment, with blacked-out grille accents, alloy wheels and exterior trims, along with GT badging, to give them a sportier edge over the standard car.

Cabin Upgrades That Raise the Bar

The interior story is equally compelling. The dashboard layout is carried over but now features updated trims and a two-tone finish, with six upholstery options available depending on the variant.

A larger 10.25-inch digital driver's display and an updated 10.1-inch infotainment system with slicker software, AI-based integration, real-time information access, and improved voice controls make up the centrepiece of the cabin.

Volkswagen has added a panoramic sunroof to the Taigun facelift, alongside powered and ventilated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ambient lighting, wireless charging and an updated air-conditioning system with a revised compressor for better cooling performance. It is worth noting that the rear seat massage function, which the closely related Skoda Kushaq offers, has been left out of the Taigun's feature list.

Safety Credentials Maintained

On the safety front, the Taigun facelift carries forward its five-star safety rating. It comes equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, front and rear parking sensors, traction control, electronic differential lock, hill-hold assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts and an auto-dimming interior rearview mirror as standard.

Engines and Gearboxes Get an Important Update

The 1.0 TSI Gets a New 8-Speed Automatic

The Taigun facelift carries forward its two familiar turbo-petrol engines: a 1.0-litre TSI producing 115hp and 178Nm, and a 1.5-litre TSI making 150hp and 250Nm.

The headline mechanical update is the introduction of a new 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox for the 1.0 TSI, replacing the older 6-speed unit, while the 6-speed manual is carried forward.

Volkswagen notes that this new gearbox improves the 1.0 TSI's fuel efficiency by nearly six percent. The 1.5 TSI continues with the 7-speed DSG automatic.

Volkswagen has also added rear disc brakes to the 1.5 TSI variants, a much-requested improvement.

Pre-Bookings Open, Prices Awaited

Pre-bookings for the Taigun facelift are now open, with amounts ranging from Rs 11,000 to Rs 50,000. Buyers will receive a standard 4-year or 1,00,000 km warranty, four years of roadside assistance and 3 free labour services.

Prices are yet to be announced, though a modest premium over the outgoing model is widely expected. The updated Taigun will compete against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara, Tata Sierra, Skoda Kushaq and Renault Duster.
