On January 19, Toyota will introduce a new battery-electric SUV in India.
The Maruti e Vitara and the Urban Cruiser EV are similar in many ways; the Toyota looks and features are added.
The Urban Cruiser EV has been formally teased by Toyota Kirloskar Motor, indicating that it will launch in India on January 19, 2026. This is Toyota's first battery-electric vehicle (BEV) specifically designed for the Indian market, and it will go up against other cutting-edge electric SUVs from different producers.
In essence, Toyota's equivalent of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara EV, a vehicle co-developed by the Maruti-Toyota cooperation, is the Urban Cruiser EV. Toyota has used its own design language and branding throughout the exterior and interior, even though many essential elements and the fundamental structure are identical.
Interior Features and Design
The Urban Cruiser EV has a contemporary yet approachable appearance. It has 18 to 19 inch aero-focused wheels, a clean, closed-off front grille appropriate for electric cars, and bright LED lighting that makes it stand out on the road.
In addition to creature amenities like wireless phone charging, automated climate control, and a top-notch audio system, the cabin will have a dual-screen arrangement with a touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster. As standard, connectivity options like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are anticipated.
Performance and Powertrain
The Urban Cruiser EV is anticipated to have two battery options under the hood: a larger 61.1 kWh pack with higher power and a 48.8 kWh pack that powers a front-drive motor. These configurations are anticipated to give a stated range that will compete with others in the market and produce competitive outputs.
According to reports, the larger battery version may also come with all-wheel drive, which would improve performance and traction and make it appropriate for a range of driving situations.
Cost and Position in the Market
The Urban Cruiser EV is anticipated to be priced between ₹20 lakh and ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it in India's rapidly expanding luxury electric SUV market.
Toyota intends to attract consumers seeking a long-range EV with dependable comfort, strong performance, and the assurance of Toyota dependability by joining this cutthroat market.
What's Up Next?
When Toyota's Urban Cruiser EV formally launches later this month, enthusiasts and potential EV purchasers will be keeping a careful eye on it. With its blend of contemporary features, electric performance, and clever design, it seeks to increase Toyota's presence in India's electric transportation narrative.
