BMW X6 Makes Its Return to India, What to Expect from the Upcoming M60i

After a nearly three-year absence from the Indian market, the BMW X6 is back in the spotlight. BMW India has officially previewed the new X6 ahead of its launch, bringing with it a more powerful M60i guise, refreshed styling, and a technology-laden cabin that signals the brand's intention to reclaim its ground in the premium coupe SUV segment with serious intent.

  • The BMW X6 has been previewed in India following its discontinuation in January 2023, with an official launch expected in the coming months.

  • It is set to arrive in the M60i guise, powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 523bhp.

BMW India has previewed the new X6 in the country, signalling the return of the coupe SUV to its local portfolio, with a launch expected in the coming months. For those who remember it fondly, the X6 was always something of a statement car.

The model was known for blending the SUV stance with the sloping roofline of a coupe, a combination that never failed to turn heads. It was discontinued in January 2023, when it was available solely with a petrol powertrain. With this new generation, BMW is clearly not returning quietly.

A Design That Demands Attention

The new X6 gets a sharper front fascia with BMW's illuminated kidney grille, sleeker LED headlamps, sculpted bumpers, and prominent air intakes. The silhouette, thankfully, has not been tampered with.

The side profile continues with the signature coupe-like silhouette, while the rear receives slim LED tail lamps and a sporty bumper treatment. Large 21-inch alloy wheels and muscular haunches further add to its road presence, and on Indian roads, this thing will simply own whatever lane it occupies.

An Interior That Reflects Its Premium Positioning

Inside, the X6 is expected to feature BMW's latest curved display setup that combines the digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system.

Premium leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, multi-zone climate control, connected car technology, ADAS features, and a premium audio system are also part of the package. It is, in short, a properly well-appointed cabin that ought to satisfy even the most discerning of luxury buyers.

The M60i Guise Brings Serious Performance to the Table

Here is where things get genuinely exciting. For its India comeback, the X6 is expected to arrive in the potent M60i guise, powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine producing 523bhp, paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.

Also part of the package are an M Sport exhaust system, an active kidney grille, air curtains, an M Sport differential, and adaptive M Suspension, collectively making this a proper performance SUV rather than just a pretty face.

Where It Sits and Who It Fights

Once launched, the BMW X6 will sit above the X5 in the brand's SUV hierarchy and cater to buyers looking for a more style-focused alternative. It is expected to rival models such as the Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe and the Audi SQ8.

With a price bracket of Rs. 1.50 to 1.55 crore expected, it is firmly in the territory of buyers who want performance and theatre in equal measure.
