The 7-seater Volkswagen Tayron R-Line was spied testing in Maharashtra's Chandrapur, making its debut on Indian soil. Priced slightly above the base Tiguan SUV, the Tayron includes additional space and seating in a sportier, more upscale form.
Although Volkswagen is yet to officially announce its India launch, the spotting has created excitement among SUV fans.
Sporty Exterior Ties Up with Tiguan R-Line
From what was visible on the spy pictures, the Tayron is identical to the recently introduced 2025 Tiguan R-Line, particularly its outer look. It boasts projector LED headlights, an interconnected LED rear light bar, and the classic 'R' emblem on the front and side, pointing to its sporty heritage. The SUV also has the same dual-tone alloy wheels used by its 5-seater variant.
The biggest difference is in its longer body, which provides space for a third row of seats, and thus, it is more useful for bigger families.
Bigger in Every Way
In comparison to India-spec Tiguan, the Tayron is 253 mm longer and provides a 109 mm longer wheelbase. The bigger footprint equates to greater cabin space and easier third-row entry.
In spite of the additional row, the Tayron provides 850 litres of boot capacity with the third row stowed, and this makes it a very serious contender in the 7-seater SUV market.
Powertrain and Features
Internationally, the Tayron R-Line gets three engine choices, of which the 204 PS 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is already seen in the Tiguan and Skoda Kodiaq. This engine will probably be the favorite here in India, too.
The Tayron gets a 15-inch infotainment display, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and the same 3-spoke steering wheel as in the Tiguan.
Expected Launch and Rivals
While there is no confirmation of an imminent launch date, the Tayron may be launched soon as a premium vehicle over the Tiguan, with a price tag higher than ₹49 lakh (ex-showroom). On launch, it will rival the Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, and Jeep Meridian.
