Nissan’s Upcoming Creta Rival SUV Could Be Named ‘Kait’ – Launch Expected in FY2026

Nissan is gearing up to challenge the Hyundai Creta with an all-new midsize SUV, possibly named ‘Kait’. Slated for a 2026 launch in India, the SUV will be based on the new Renault Duster platform and is expected to offer hybrid powertrains, premium features, and a bold new design aimed at India’s competitive SUV segment.

Nissan Mid Size SUV

Nissan will get closer to a full-fledged challenge in India’s booming mid-size SUV segment with the launch of an all-new compact SUV later this year. The name of the compact is yet to be finalized for the Indian market, but media reports suggest it could be called ‘Kait’ in Brazil.

What about the Indian market is still a mystery, but it’s clear that Nissan is set on making its big move against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Grand Vitara.

Distinct Design, Despite Shared Underpinnings

The Nissan-developed SUV could soon be found built on the new-generation Renault Duster platform, but the big brand has also ensured that it has its distinctive look.

The concept sketch suggests a very aggressive front end featuring a huge grille encompassing two large chrome slats, LED DRLs with L-shaped headlights and a strip of separating chrome to connect the two.

Loaded with Tech and Comfort Features

The new Nissan midsize SUV may be the best-equipped car in its class, even better than the Duster. A few of the features include:

  • 360-degree camera

  • 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system

  • 7-inch digital driver’s display

  • Automatic climate control

  • Rear AC vents

  • Multiple drive modes

These features show a direct attention to comfort, safety and advanced connectivity, which are surely core aspects of a modern Indian buyer’s list.

Likely Powertrain Options

Though we’re awaiting official engine figures, it seems like that SUV will be powered by the same engine as the new Duster, which can be a 1.0L turbo-petrol engine or possibly a 1.6L hybrid setup built around two electric motors and a 1.2 kWh battery pack. That hybrid opportunity could be a key selling point in a fuel-efficient market.

Its flashy styling, impressive tech, and a hybrid potential of its own, Nissan’s new SUV could be one of the coolest launches of 2026.
