The First Tesla India Showroom will be the one to open in Mumbai

It has been seven years since Tesla announced it would launch in India, and on the 15th of July in 2025, it will be finally introduced to India. Its first showroom and experience centre will open in Mumbai. Model Y will first come and test drive, customize and place an order on the first day.

Another giant leap has been made in the electric vehicle revolution in India, where Tesla is scheduled to officially install its first showroom in the country tomorrow, 15 July 2025. The premier launch in the posh Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) at Mumbai manifests the long-awaited entry of Tesla into the Indian car market.

What’s the Aim Behind?

This new showroom has not been built with the sole purpose of entering cars with the anticipation of finding a car to purchase, but as a full-fledged Tesla experience centre. The customers will have an opportunity to test drive the Tesla range of advanced electric vehicles, configure their settings and order them inside all-encompassing single-roof stores. Tesla is set to introduce the first product in India among its brands, the Model Y.

Before the delivery, the six units of the Model Y SUV are already in the city of Mumbai, being brought in by the manufacturing plant in Shanghai of Tesla. Indian consumers will be able to get a feel and touch of this Tesla electric innovation, with these units being on display and being made available for test drives.

Pricing

The official price of Model Y has not been announced in India so far by Tesla. Because the vehicles are coming in as completely built units (CBUs), they will incur up to 70 percent import duty in the current government regulation. This implies that the price can be extremely high at the beginning, as compared to other markets abroad.

Joint discussions are underway, however, between Tesla and the Indian government in connection with localized assembly or new production. In the event that such talks take positive directions, Tesla might later be in the position of reducing prices and increasing aggressive product offerings in the Indian market.

At the same stage, besides Mumbai, Tesla will open other experience centres in major metro cities such as Delhi and Bengaluru in the next few months. The Indian EV landscape can use the entry of Tesla as a crucial trigger, given the foreign expertise and offers of innovation and competitiveness to an emerging market.

Wait and watch when Tesla's Indian electric future will be a reality.
