The Renault Bridger SUV will be offered with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a battery electric variant, both built on the RGMP platform.
The Bridger is expected to play a central role in Renault's future-ready strategic plan, which targets making India one of the brand's top three global markets by 2030.
The upcoming Renault Bridger will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. While Renault has not made an official announcement about the exact specification, it is believed the unit in question could be the TCe 115, a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This motor produces 115 hp and 190 Nm of torque and is paired with a manual gearbox on the Clio 6.
Unlike the Clio 6, which is based on the CMF-B platform, the Bridger sits on the RGMP (Renault Group Modular Platform) architecture, the same underpinning as the new-generation Duster. In the sub-4-metre segment, the turbo petrol Bridger will go head-to-head against rivals such as the Tata Nexon, Tata Punch, Mahindra XUV 3XO, and the Citroen C3.
A Fully Electric Bridger Could Be Renault's First BEV in India
A BEV version of the Bridger will also be on the cards, and it could potentially mark Renault's entry into the Indian electric vehicle space. Renault already sells a range of electric vehicles in global markets, including the Renault 5 E-Tech and the Mégane E-Tech.
In India, the electric Bridger is expected to rival the battery-electric versions of the Tata Nexon, Punch, and XUV 3XO.
Expected Battery, Range, and Charging Specifications
Formal battery specifications are yet to be revealed, but the Bridger EV could offer battery pack options of up to around 40kWh, with an ARAI-certified range of close to 500 km and a real-world range of approximately 350 km.
On the chemistry front, the model is expected to use LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery packs, partly for safety reasons and partly to keep pricing competitive. A 400-volt architecture is anticipated, with support for both DC fast charging and AC charging. Features such as V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) and regenerative braking are also likely to be part of the package.
Bridger's Role in Renault's Broader India Strategy
With its sporty profile and assertive road presence, the Bridger has the potential to become a strong seller in the sub-4-metre segment, which has historically responded well to new launches. Renault has positioned the Bridger as a volume driver within its wider futuREady strategic plan for India.
By 2030, Renault aims to make India one of its top three markets globally, while simultaneously transforming the country into a key production hub for both domestic sales and exports. The company has set a target of €2 billion in annual exports by 2030, drawing from vehicle and component exports as well as research and development activities.
The Bridger, in that sense, is not just another product launch; it is a statement of intent from Renault about how seriously it is taking the Indian market.
