Ford is preparing to return to the European compact crossover market with a new crossover that will be its successor to the now discontinued EcoSport. A fresh render shows us what the new model could look like and it has a sporty, muscular and bold look that ultimately takes design inspiration from the Ford Territory and direction from a more futuristic feel that would cater for a contemporary customer base.
This new crossover is positioned to be an economical, flexible alternative to well-known models like the Dacia Duster, Volkswagen T-Cross, and Renault Captur. It should also fill the gap left by other Ford models (Fiesta and Focus) that were once strong volume products for Ford in Europe.
Future-Proof Architecture and Progressive Styling
This new compact SUV will be about 4,000 mm - 4,100 mm long, which likely makes it slightly shorter than the Ford Puma. The rendering shows a large front grille with horizontal elements, LED DRLs, and a muscular side profile, which gives the SUV a strong presence on the road.
The SUV will be built on a multi-energy architecture that will allow for a body style to accommodate various engine formats including; mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, full hybrid, and battery electric. Thus, allowing it to stay relevant with changing customer preferences towards greener, more efficient vehicles.
The vehicle will be produced in Ford's Almussafes plant in Spain to help control costs and be available for European markets. Price points feature a starting price of €20,000 to €24,000 (approx. ₹19.18 lakh to ₹23 lakh).
Will Ford Make a Comeback in India?
Ford ceased manufacturing in India in 2022, ending the decade-long production of the EcoSport. During 2023, some discussions emerged about restarting operations at the plant in Chennai, especially for exports, but true progress still remains to be seen. Ford's entry back into the Indian market has been delayed, with a final conclusion coming in the summer of 2025.
While American policy changes may shape Ford's global manufacturing strategy, it is safe to say EcoSport fans in India will have to wait longer before any potential locales come back.
