MG Comet and Gloster Receive Steep Price Hike in May 2025

In what looks to be a continued strong response, JSW MG Motor India has now made prices across two of its key model ranges — the compact Comet EV; the compact, city-focused SUV and full-size Gloster SUV.

The price change will depend on the variant of the vehicle, and buyers will see prices go up by as much as ₹1.51 lakh from what they previously had to pay.

After it sold well, even with the Windsor Pro, JSW MG Motor India is nimble with its product portfolio strategy and is executing a price hike.

In May 2025, MG has hiked prices for both ends of its portfolio — Comet EV for the city SUV and Gloster premium SUV. The company says this continues its strategies to adjust product pricing due to rising input costs and the level-up of features.

MG Comet EV: India’s Budget EV Gets Pricier

MG Comet EV is one of India’s cheapest electric vehicles and it continues to attract urban drivers since the Comet EV is a compact EV filled with tech. All variants have seen their prices revised this month and the rise in price for the base model is the most drastic.

Comet EV executive (No Fast Charger):

  • Price Previously – ₹7.00 lakh → Price New – ₹7.36 lakh

  • Increase – ₹35,700

Excite & Excite FC:

  • Excite is now priced at ₹8.42 lakh (up ₹16,000)-->Excite FC is at ₹8.82 lakh (up ₹4,00)

  • Exclusive, Exclusive FC, Blackstorm FC: → Each has an increase of ₹5,300

If you take MG’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme, the entry price is ₹4.99 lakh + ₹2.5/km so at least it isn’t too bad for price sensitive consumers.

MG Gloster: Flagship SUV Sees Massive Price Surge

Prior to the upcoming launch of the MG Majestor, which will sit above the Gloster, MG has also adjusted its prices for its full-size SUVs. The Gloster Sharp Turbo 4X2 7-seater sees the largest increase:

  • Sharp Turbo 4X2 7S
    Previous Price – ₹39.56 lakh → New Price – ₹41.07 lakh
    Hike – ₹1.51 lakh

  • Savvy Turbo 4X2 & Savvy Twin Turbo 4X4
    Uniform hike of ₹1.5 lakh
Top Variant Now at ₹45.53 lakh

Conclusion

The increased prices, featured throughout all MG's models, are representative of increased production costs and their position as a brand. While they may disappoint some customers, both the Comet EV and Gloster still deliver decent value within their segments as MG are planning launches of new models in 2025.
