A new mystery SUV from Mahindra was spied testing on the roads of India, and its presence has created a lot of speculation in the automotive community. Due to the boxy shape, prominent stature and three-row seating layout, it's believed to be the next-gen Mahindra Bolero or possibly a more premium version of the Bolero model ladder.
These spy shots also arrive at an interesting time as Mahindra has already confirmed the launch of a new SUV platform on August 15, 2025, and to complete this genre, Mahindra is preparing to launch three new internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles by 2026, including two facelifts and one all-new generation model.
What Does the Design Reveal?
Even with a lot of camouflage on it, the SUV's upright posture and rugged looks give off clear Bolero vibes.
Front: There are circular LED headlamps (probably pre-production), a vertical slat grille, and a muscular bumper styling that appears to have fog lamp housing.
Side Profile: Flush door handles, 18-inch Scorpio N-style alloys, black body cladding hints, and boxy window line create a rugged-looking SUV DNA feel.
Rear: Spare wheel mounted on tailgate, compact wraparound tail lights like Bolero Neo and visibility of three-row seating indicate its practical SUV appeal.
Platform & Powertrain Expectations
The SUV is set to debut on Mahindra's upcoming modular SUV architecture that will more than likely support a variety of drivetrains, and the following engines:
1.5-litre diesel from the Thar RWD and XUV 3XO
1.5-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol, which was first shown at the Auto Expo 2020
It would seem that this configuration could provide excellent performance with some degree of on-road and off-road capability.
Could It Rival the Creta?
If Mahindra places this SUV above the Bolero, it will sit in the Rs 10 lakh–Rs 15 lakh space. The vehicle will compete with popular compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and others, although its rugged construction and utilitarian nature provide it with uniqueness.
More information is on the way. There are soundings from the platform unveiling in August. For now, we wait to see what might be the most substantial Bolero yet.
