The all-new Citroën C3 Hybrid has gone on sale in the UK from £20,115. It is a competitor for the £21,895 Renault Clio E-Tech, while this new version of the C3 has a new advanced development of Stellantis, Citroën's parent company, which has put a lot of development into the common 48V mild hybrid powertrain.
The entire powertrain consists of a turbocharged 1.2-liter-three-cylinder petrol engine, a single electric motor, and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Previously, this set-up had been offered with an output of 134bhp in cars such as the Alfa Romeo Junior, Peugeot 208, and Vauxhall Corsa; but in the C3, it produces a total of 108bhp and 151lb ft, enabling it to sprint from 0-62mph in as little as 10.1sec and reach a top speed of 120mph.
The set-up is meant for use of the electric motor at low speeds, such as during stop-start traffic. Citroën claimed in its statement that under such conditions, the vehicle can run for approximately half the time.
The manufacturer indicated that in wider use, the nearest setup produces 10% less CO2 than the 99bhp petrol engine of the C3, which has no form of electrical assistance.
The official numbers for the C3 Hybrid's CO2 emissions are at 114g/km, placing it under the 28% benefit-in-kind rate for 2025-26, whereas it has claimed an average of 56.5mpg. The new car's rival, the standard model without hybridization, the C3 petrol with 99bhp, is £17,790 and has consumption figures of 52mpg and CO2 emissions of 128g/km. There will be two levels of trim available: Plus, which packs features including LED headlights and a 10.25in infotainment touchscreen as well as rear parking sensors; and Max, starting from £21,815, which includes set options such as climate control, heated front seats and steering wheel, and a reversing camera.
