Toyota was among the top-selling auto brands throughout 2024, with hopes of carrying on that success in 2025, not only with a strong start to the New Year.
For last month, TMNA's sales were up 7.7 percent across the board and included a total of 231,335 units sold. In the first quarter of 2025, TMNA's sales rose by 0.9 percent to 570,269.
Leading on Toyota's sales charts is the RAV4, which sold 41,509 units in March and 115,402 for the year up to the end of March 2025. Close behind is the Camry with 29,661 units sold last month and 70,308 this year to date. Next up is the Tacoma with 23,949 units sold this past month and 59,825 units sold for the year to date.
In March, Toyota's electrified cars performed quite well, with 99,119 units coming out last month. This constitutes a 49.1 percent increase over the year before.
So far this year, Toyota electrified sales grew by an impressive 44.0 percent overall, going up to 255,915 battery-powered vehicles sold.
The following are the five best sellers for Toyota in 2025 so far:
Model | March 2025 Sales | 2025 Sales |
---|---|---|
Toyota RAV4 | 41,509 Units | 115,402 Units |
Toyota Camry | 29,661 Units | 70,308 Units |
Toyota Tacoma | 23,949 Units | 59,825 Units |
Toyota Corolla | 21,495 Units | 55,456 Units |
Toyota Tundra | 14,405 Units | 35,550 Units |
Unfortunately, there is also bad news for Toyota. The Corolla, one of the brand's best sellers, was down in volume by 3.7 percent year-on-year. The Supra was down 11.4 percent. The GR86 was down 16.0 percent. The Highlander, unbelievably, was down an enormous 52.1 percent.
Also, much like Toyota, Lexus registered a phenomenal deluge of sales in March- fourteen percent against the March of last year! It sold 35,095 vehicles in total. The best-selling RX SUV kept her lead and sold 10,452 units in March. NX came in second with 7,077 units sold, while TX three-row SUV came third with 4,584 units.
Like Toyota, Lexus differentiates itself with electrified vehicles early in the year. Sales were up 15.6 percent in March to 13,489 units sold. So far, 32,881 electrified vehicles have been sold by Lexus.
The following are Lexus's five best sellers for 2025 up till now:
Model | March 2025 Sales | 2025 Sales |
---|---|---|
Lexus RX | 10,452 Units | 24,716 Units |
Lexus NX | 7,077 Units | 17,992 Units |
Lexus TX | 4,584 Units | 10,045 Units |
Lexus ES | 4,020 Units | 9,198 Units |
Lexus GX | 3,922 Units | 9,239 Units |
Sadly, sales for the Lexus RZ and UX were down 14.7 and 12.9 percent, respectively. In March, Lexus sold fewer than 1,000 UX SUVs and sold only 705 RZs. The Lexus LX was also a slow seller in March, with only 733 units sold. But, then again, the luxury SUV has never sold in great numbers.
"We continue to see steady sales from our Toyota and Lexus brands due in part to improved inventory levels and new models like the Toyota 4Runner and Lexus LX hybrid. We’re also seeing our sales mix of electrified vehicles increasing as our diverse portfolio of 32 electrified vehicles continue to grow and satisfy the needs of our customers while reducing emissions as much as possible, as quickly as possible.' — Mark Templin, TMNA Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Seemingly, Toyota and Lexus appear to be on the right track for 2025.
