MG has launched the Comet EV at a price of Rs. 7.98 lakh. The company touts it as the no-nonsense EV car.
The new MG Comet EV has been launched in India with prices starting at Rs. 7.98 lakh for the base variant- Pace, going all the way up to Rs. 9.98 lakh for the range-topping Plush trim. The MG Comet has been offered in three trims: Pace, Play and Plush. The Play trim is priced at Rs. 9.28 lakh. The bookings are open from May 15 and deliveries are expected from May 22 in a phased manner, pre-registration begins today. These prices are introductory and will expire post the first 5000 bookings.
The MG Comet EV comes with all the bells and whistles and more you can expect in an entry-level EV. Step inside the cabin and you are welcomed by light fabric seat upholstery and a premium cabin. It gets two 10.25-inch screens - infotainment and instrumentation, a leather-covered steering wheel, a four-speaker audio system with two tweeters, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, over-the-air updates, reverse camera, three levels of regenerative braking, three drive modes- Eco, Normal and Sport.
As far as safety is concerned, the MG Comet comes with a tyre pressure monitoring system, powered mirrors, two airbags, ABS, parking sensor keyless-go and the battery pack of course is IP67 certified.
Powering the MG Comet EV is a 17.3 kWh battery that pushes 42 bhp and 110 Nm of torque. The MG Comet can get to 100 kmph in about 10 seconds, making it decently fast. The MG Comet EV takes about seven hours for a full charge and 5.5 hours for an 80 per cent charge. And the company claims a good 230 km of real-world range.
The MG Comet is 2,974 mm long, 1,505 mm wide, and 1,640 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,010 mm. Suspension duties are taken care of by McPherson Strut up front and a multi-link coil unit at the rear. Braking is handled by a disc brake setup up front and drum units at the rear, the EV comes shod with 12-inch wheels. It gets an electric power steering and has a turning radius of 4.2 metres.
The closest rival would be the Tata Tiago EV which borrows the ICE silhouette and thus has a little advantage in terms of spacing. The Tata Tiago also has a longer range when compared with the MG Comet EV.
