Tata has received a design patent for the Avinya EV, revealing its minimalistic interior layout ahead of its expected 2027 launch.
The Avinya will be preceded by the Sierra EV and Tigor EV, with four new electric models planned by Tata through FY31.
The wait for the Tata Avinya just got a little more interesting. Tata Motors has received a design patent for the Avinya EV, and the accompanying images have offered the clearest look yet at what the production model's interior will feel like. It is a cabin that appears to leave behind the conventional and lean firmly towards the contemporary.
The patent reveals a dashboard built around a minimalistic philosophy. There are no busy lines or cluttered switchgear, just a clean expanse punctuated by rectangular air conditioning vents and what is described as the largest infotainment display that Tata has ever fitted to a production car.
Given the proportions visible in the patent, this screen could measure anywhere between 14 and 15 inches across, which would make it quite the focal point of the cabin.
Steering Wheel and Controls Get a Fresh Treatment
Equally noteworthy is the steering wheel, which adopts a two-spoke design carrying the Avinya nameplate at the centre. It is a departure from the multi-spoke units that populate the rest of Tata's current range.
The headlight and wiper stalks have also been repositioned slightly higher than their conventional placements, a detail that might seem minor but speaks to the degree of thought going into the overall layout.
What Comes Before the Avinya
The Avinya is not Tata's next launch. The Sierra EV is due to arrive first, with the Tigor EV also slated to precede it. A fourth electric model, widely speculated to be the Safari EV, is believed to be arriving around the same period.
Together, these four form part of Tata's broader EV push through to FY31, alongside six planned ICE nameplates. The Avinya itself is expected to reach the market sometime in 2027, and will be followed by yet another new nameplate thereafter.
For a car that still has some runway before it reaches buyers, the patent filing is a telling sign of how far along development has come. The interior direction suggests Tata is positioning the Avinya firmly in premium electric territory, and on this early evidence, it looks the part.
