Maserati has returned to India with the soft launch of two stunning convertibles, the performance supercar MC20 Cielo and a the cool 2+2 convertible GranCabrio. There hasn't been an official announcement from the performance luxury brand, but now that prices and specs have been published, there is some chatter among animal enthusiasts and wealthy buyers.
Maserati MC20 Cielo: Open-Top Speed Demon
The MC20 Cielo retails for Rs 5.31 crore (ex-showroom, excluding options) and is Maserati’s first convertible since the previous generation GranCabrio went out of production in 2019.
Cielo shares the same underpinning and powertrain as the MC20 coupe. A 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine provides 630hp and 730Nm of torque. The Cielo, because of the added weight of the folding glass roof, takes about the same time as the coupe to sprint from 0 to 100kph, just mildly slower with 3 seconds (the coupe is only a tenth of a second quicker), and claimed top speeds in excess of 320kph.
The roof itself is impressive; a 909mm by 615mm glass panel that opens and closes in just 12 seconds. At 1,560kg, the Cielo is 85kg heavier than the coupe. The Cielo adopts the cabins, tech, and customizations of the coupe, while maintaining a premium level of luxury to go with its race-derived performance.
Maserati Grancabrio: Italian Elegance in an Italian 2+2 Convertible
Meanwhile, the GranCabrio, essentially like driving an open-top GranTurismo, is priced from Rs 3.40 crore. The car employs the same 3.0-litre V6 engine as the GranTurismo Trofeo, with 550 hp and 650 Nm. The car will accelerate from 0-100kph in 3.6 seconds, with a claimed top speed of 316kph.
The GranCabrio is designed for both performance and beauty, equipped with a fabric soft-top that can open or close with just a button in just 14 seconds, at speeds of up to 50kph.
In terms of materials, the GranCabrio uses the same luxurious materials as the GranTurismo and offers a wide variety of options and accessories.
Maserati is all-in for India's Supercar market.
With both convertibles now available, Maserati is clearly targeting India's burgeoning market for ultra-luxury and performance cars. The MC20 Cielo and GranCabrio represent two different styles of convertible driving — one for the adrenaline junkie and the other designed for lovers of long, luxurious drives.
