Following the great success of the Range Rover Ranthambore Edition, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is preparing Indian customers again with a fully tailored SUV — the Range Rover Himalayan Edition. This new model will be a bespoke version of the Indian market and will pull inspirations from the pristine and majestic Himalaya mountain range.
Speaking in a recent media exercise, Martin Limpert, JLR’s Global Managing Director, revealed the information and expressed the company's wish to deliver experiences specific to India.
"Our Ranthambore edition was a phenomenal success, and our customers are asking for more specials from India itself, so we will provide another one, and this one is based on the Himalayas," Limpert stated.
What to Expect: Styling and Design Philosophy
While official news is still under wraps, it is reported that the Himalayan Edition is expected to have a pale and light-colored exterior body with the color scheme likely to be white or a silvery hue to resemble the snow-covered mountains of the region.
The design theme would presumably be similar to the Himalayan Edition's exterior and interior design which mimicked tiger stripes whereas the Ranthambore Edition had a full black exterior with Corinthian Bronze and Anthracite levels of accents mimicking tiger stripes, the Himalayan pictures of animals could have similar connotations on the interior and exterior materials, finishes and details.
Inside, it can be expected that customers would see leather upholstery likely equipped with escape or embroidery or fabrics that are influenced by a Himalayan design language as part of the luxury traceability characteristic of its India's natural heritage, combined with world-class comfort and craftsmanship.
Exclusivity and Local Assembly Advantage strategy
JLR is increasingly relying on local assembly operations in India to produce these exclusive models with some flexibility and competitive pricing. The company says it was able to achieve its recent India performance based upon this approach, a 40% year - on - year increase of 6,183 units sold in FY2025. Importantly, sales of the locally assembled Range Rover and Range Rover Sport were up 2.5 times.
Limpert said "Our customers enjoy these editions and really help with our exclusivity," and "local manufacture is helping with these types of iterations."
An Increase in India-Focused Luxuries
Given the success of the Ranthambore Edition (sold out all 12 units in a week), we expect the Himalayan Edition will generate more interest for India-specific luxury SUVs. This demonstrates some flexibility that JLR can have for the Indian market and reflects specifically the wealthy Indian luxury customers that want exclusivity and relevance to their culture.
