Toyota India Records 17% Sales Growth in January 2026 Led by Hyryder

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has commenced 2026 on a high note, achieving a robust 17 per cent year-on-year growth with 30,630 units sold in January. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder emerged as the star performer, registering an exceptional 85 per cent surge to become the brand's bestselling model. This success highlights the growing consumer appetite for hybrid technology in India's automotive market. With the Innova Hycross also posting strong numbers, Toyota's electrified SUV and MPV lineup is clearly resonating with buyers seeking efficiency and performance.

  • A complete breakdown of Toyota's product portfolio performance and what it reveals about changing buyer preferences in the Indian market

Toyota's January 2026 performance tells a compelling story of how hybrid technology is capturing the imagination of Indian motorists. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder clocked 9,156 units last month, representing a staggering 85% increase compared to January 2025. More impressively, it outpaced December's figures by 30%, cementing its position as Toyota's most sought-after model.

The Hyryder's self-charging hybrid system, which combines a petrol engine with an electric motor, delivers an ARAI-certified fuel economy of nearly 28 kilometres per litre. In an era of fluctuating fuel prices, this exceptional efficiency is proving to be a major draw for families and fleet operators alike.

MPV Muscle Continues to Flex

The Innova family maintained its stronghold in the multi-purpose vehicle segment, with the Hycross recording 6,391 units, a 13% uplift year-on-year. The hybrid-powered Hycross is gradually establishing itself as the premium choice for those seeking space and sophistication.

Meanwhile, the tried-and-tested Innova Crysta contributed 3,064 units, demonstrating that there's still an appetite for the diesel-powered workhorse despite a 26% annual decline.

SUV Stalwarts Hold Ground

The legendary Fortuner proved its enduring appeal with 3,046 deliveries, whilst the lifestyle-oriented Hilux pickup recorded 317 units, a 33% improvement.

At the luxury end, the Vellfire luxury MPV witnessed remarkable demand with 123 units, compared to just three in January 2025. The flagship Land Cruiser 300 added 21 units to the tally.

Segment Strategy Paying Dividends

Toyota's performance underscores a clear trend: hybrid SUVs and MPVs now account for over half the brand's total sales. The Hyryder and Hycross together delivered more than 15,500 units, validating the manufacturer's multi-pathway approach to electrification.

With the all-electric Urban Cruiser Ebella set for imminent launch and a seven-seater Hyryder variant under development, Toyota is positioning itself to capitalize on India's evolving mobility landscape while maintaining its reputation for reliability and efficiency.
