Tata Punch EV Facelift Base Variant Along With Price & Features Revealed

The Indian marque has revealed the base Smart variant of its refreshed electric micro-SUV, offering an accessible gateway into zero-emissions motoring. Priced at Rs 9.69 lakh, the entry-level model brings substantial equipment whilst maintaining competitive positioning in the burgeoning EV segment. With contemporary styling updates and enhanced connectivity features, the updated Punch EV aims to strengthen Tata's foothold in the affordable electric vehicle market.

Tata Motors has pulled back the curtain on the base Smart variant of its updated Punch EV, marking the first significant refresh since the electric micro-SUV's debut. The entry-level offering carries a price tag of Rs 9.69 lakh for outright purchase, though buyers can opt for the Battery-as-a-Service scheme, which brings the starting figure down to a more palatable Rs 6.49 lakh.

The Smart variant distinguishes itself with a focused approach to specification, offering buyers a quartet of colour choices: Supernova Copper, Pure Grey, Pristine White, and Bengal Rouge. Those seeking more flamboyant hues, such as Caramel, Empowered Oxide, or Fearless Yellow, will need to venture up the trim ladder.

Power and Performance Credentials

Under the bonnet, or rather, beneath the bonnet, the base specification houses a 30kWh battery pack paired with a single electric motor. The powertrain generates a modest 87 bhp and 154 Nm of torque, translating to a claimed ARAI-certified range of 355 kilometres on a full charge. Whilst these figures won't set pulses racing, they're perfectly adequate for the urban commuting duties this compact EV is designed to handle.

Equipment and Technology

Despite its entry-level status, the Smart variant doesn't skimp on creature comforts. The cabin welcomes occupants with a touch-based climate control panel, a contemporary touch that aligns with modern expectations. There's also iRA connected car technology, allowing owners to stay plugged into their vehicle's status remotely.

The safety suite proves comprehensive, with six airbags leading the charge alongside electronic stability programme, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, and hill hold assist.

Tata has also included intelligent tyre pressure monitoring, reverse parking sensors, and a suite of driver alerts.

Design Updates Worth Noting

Visually, the refreshed Punch EV adopts the design language introduced in the updated petrol-powered model. The front fascia sports a reworked bumper with cleaner integration, whilst the rear end receives reprofiled LED tail lamps that lend a more contemporary appearance.

Inside, a two-spoke steering wheel greets occupants and the reassurance of multi-mode regenerative braking alongside City and Sport drive modes.

The Smart variant rolls on 15-inch steel wheels with covers, maintaining a practical aesthetic that prioritises functionality over flash. Front power windows and height-adjustable driver seating round out the practical touches that make daily ownership more pleasant.
