Five New Cars, One Wild Week, India's Auto Market Heats Up in February 2026

It was the kind of week that reminds you just how fast India's car market moves. Five all-new launches landed in rapid succession, two of them electric, one a budget family haulier, and two premium SUVs that mean serious business. From Tata's sharper Punch EV and Maruti's long-awaited e Vitara to Nissan's surprisingly affordable Gravite, Volkswagen's flagship Tayron R-Line, and a sportier Jeep Meridian, there was something for every kind of buyer, at every kind of budget.

  • Two new electric vehicles, the Tata Punch EV facelift and the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, were launched with competitive pricing and innovative Battery-as-a-Service ownership models that dramatically reduce the upfront cost of going electric.

  • Three non-electric launches, the Nissan Gravite MPV, Volkswagen Tayron R-Line premium SUV, and Jeep Meridian Track Edition, rounded out the week, offering buyers fresh options from Rs. 5.65 lakh all the way up to Rs. 46.99 lakh.

India's Cheapest Seven-Seater Just Got Cheaper with the Nissan Gravite

Starting From Rs. 5.65 Lakh, Ex-Showroom

Nissan kicked off the week by quietly dropping one of the most accessible seven-seaters in the country. The Gravite, which borrows its underpinnings from the Renault Triber, arrives in five variants and five colour options, with a no-frills but feature-rich cabin that punches well above its price tag.

LED headlamps, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and flexible three-row seating all come as standard equipment on appropriate trims.

A CNG variant is also in the works, which should make the Gravite an even more compelling proposition for budget-conscious, large-family buyers.

Tata Turns Up the Voltage, Punch EV Gets a Meaningful Update

Starting From Rs. 9.69 Lakh; BaaS Option From Rs. 6.49 Lakh

Tata Motors refreshed the Punch EV with two meaningfully bigger battery packs, a 30 kWh unit for everyday city driving and a 40 kWh pack that now claims an impressive 468 km on a single charge.

Beyond the bigger batteries, buyers get subtle exterior styling revisions, three new colour options, and the same trio of Smart, Adventure, and Empowered personas.

For those who baulk at the upfront cost of an EV, the Battery-as-a-Service programme brings the entry price down to Rs. 6.49 lakh, making this one of the most affordable ways to own a brand-new electric car in India today.

Maruti Finally Pulls the Trigger and Reveals the e-Vitara

From Rs. 15.99 Lakh; BaaS Option From Rs. 10.99 Lakh

After months of anticipation, Maruti Suzuki unveiled the pricing for its first-ever electric vehicle, and it has arrived with serious intent. The e Vitara is built on the brand-new HEARTECT-e platform, purpose-designed for EVs, and is offered with a 49 kWh or a 61 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack. The larger unit delivers an ARAI-certified range of up to 543 km, making range anxiety largely a thing of the past.

The SUV also scored a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating and comes equipped with Level 2 ADAS, seven airbags, and a 10.1-inch infotainment system. As with the Punch EV, BaaS is available; customers can drive away from Rs. 10.99 lakh with a battery rental that starts at just Rs. 3.99 per kilometre. Three variants are on offer: Delta, Zeta, and Alpha.

VW Goes Big: The Tayron R-Line Is India's New Premium Seven-Seater

Priced at Rs. 46.99 Lakh, Ex-Showroom

Volkswagen India stepped up its premium game by launching the Tayron R-Line as its new flagship SUV. Locally assembled and sold as a single fully loaded variant, it replaces the Tiguan's space in the range whilst sitting above it in both size and price, commanding a Rs. 1.26 lakh premium over the Tiguan R-Line.

The Tayron's 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine produces 201 bhp and is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, making it the most powerful volume SUV in Volkswagen India's current line-up. Three rows of seating, full R-Line body styling, and a feature-packed cabin come as standard.

Jeep Adds Some Theatre as Meridian Track Edition Rolls In

From Rs. 35.95 Lakh, Available in 4x2 and 4x4

Rounding off the week with a dash of visual drama, Jeep India introduced a special Track Edition of the Meridian. Available in both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations, the Track Edition is all about kerb appeal.

Piano Black exterior accents, exclusive Track Edition badging, and 18-inch alloy wheels give it a sportier, more aggressive stance. Step inside and the theme continues with a dual-tone interior trimmed in suede, contrast stitching, and Track Edition-specific detailing throughout the cabin.
