Honda has announced that the Civic Type R Ultimate Edition will be the last hurrah for its celebrated hot hatch in Europe, with just 40 units planned. This farewell follows the FL5 Civic Type R’s discontinuation in the UK and Europe due to stricter Euro 7 emission rules taking effect in 2026.
After a 28-year production run, the Ultimate Edition marks the model’s send-off with exclusive styling and cabin touches, while under the bonnet, it remains the same heart-pounding machine fans know and love.
Exterior Highlights
Built only in Championship White, the Ultimate Edition adds red decals on the bonnet and doors, plus unique “Ultimate Edition” badges. A gloss-black roof and a carbon fiber rear wing enhance its aggressive silhouette.
The front end retains its smoked, angled headlights, black mesh grille, and air dam, all offset by a bespoke red-and-white Honda badge.
At the rear, a connected LED tail-lamp bar sits above a sporty triple-exhaust setup, blacked-out side skirts, mirrors, and 19-inch wheels—plus a functional bonnet duct for that classic Type R flair.
Interior Upgrades
Step inside, and the Ultimate Edition continues its bespoke touches. Carbonfibre trim covers the door sills and centre console, complemented by red floor mats stamped with metal “Type R” logos. Ambient lighting extends to the door liners, cupholder, console, footwell, and under-seat zones.
Each buyer receives a numbered emblem (1–40), a carbon key ring, and a custom car cover. Beyond these additions, the cabin remains unchanged, featuring red suede-effect sports seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, and a Type R steering wheel.
Performance and Powertrain
Under the hood, nothing has been altered: the same 2.0-litre VTEC turbo-petrol engine delivers 329 hp and 420 Nm of torque through a 6-speed manual gearbox to the front wheels.
Honda claims a 0–100 kph sprint in 5.4 seconds and a top speed of 275 kph. Notably, the FL5 Civic Type R still holds the lap record for a front-wheel-drive car at the Nürburgring Nordschleife with a time of 7:44.881.
No India Launch
Despite recent media buzz linking the Civic Type R with India—especially after the Volkswagen Golf GTI’s debut here it has been confirmed there are no plans to bring the performance hatch to our market.
The Ultimate Edition’s arrival signals a global phase-out by 2026. For now, Honda India’s line-up includes the City, Amaze, and Elevate, with the ZR-V hybrid SUV under consideration for a future launch.
In conclusion, the Civic Type R Ultimate Edition represents a fitting tribute to one of Honda’s most celebrated models. With its limited 40-unit run, distinctive styling, and unchanged 329 hp powertrain, it offers collectors and enthusiasts a final chance to own an icon. While it won’t grace Indian roads, its legacy will endure in every lap record and every fan’s memory.
