The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara received a full 5-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP crash tests.
Know the test findings signify for safety, how the EV is equipped for protection, and how this positions Maruti in India’s EV segment.
The e Vitara has received a 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP crash tests, making it one of the few cars in India to accomplish this milestone. The crash test results showed that it received 43 out of 49 points for child occupant protection (COP) and 31.49 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection (AOP).
The e Vitara offered acceptable to good protection for the driver's and front-seat passenger's chest and lower body as well as good protection for their heads and necks in the frontal offset deformable barrier test (at 64 km/h).
In side-impact scenarios, both against a deformable barrier at 50 km/h and in a side-pole impact, the vehicle achieved flawless scores across all body sections.
Dynamic tests with kid dummies (3-year-old and 18-month-old) and appropriate child-restraint systems produced full marks in CRS installation (12/12) and dynamic performance (24/24) for child safety.
While the vehicle assessment component for kid safety scored 7/13, the total COP score still obtained the 5-star rating under the plan.
Safety features that bolster the ranking
In addition to relying on structural strength, all versions of the e Vitara have an extensive array of safety features. These include up to seven airbags (front, side and curtain, plus driver’s knee airbag), seatbelt pre-tensioners with load limiters, seatbelt reminders, electronic stability control (ESC), ABS with EBD, electronic parking brake (EPB), tyre-pressure monitoring system (TPMS), pedestrian protection measures, and ISOFIX anchor points for child seats.
Furthermore, the e Vitara is constructed on a brand-new, particularly developed EV platform called HEARTECT-e, which has a flat floor, high structural rigidity, and safety engineering specifically designed for electric vehicles.
What this means for buyers and India’s EV market
With its crash test result, the e Vitara joins the ranks of cars like the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, and Maruti Suzuki Invicto as the fourth model from the automaker to receive a full 5-star rating under Bharat NCAP.
This is significant since the Indian market for electric vehicles is still expanding and many consumers are concerned about safety. With excellent adult and child occupant protection, together with current safety gear as standard, the e Vitara may appeal to families and safety-conscious consumers eager to convert to EVs without compromising safety.
Moreover, the 5-star certification might help raise confidence in EVs widely, indicating that electric SUVs can come up to safety expectations traditionally associated with passenger cars and SUVs.
Last thoughts
The 5-star crash test result for the e Vitara is a key milestone, not only for the vehicle, but for the developing EV sector in India. It proves that switching to electric mobility does not involve sacrificing safety. With solid structural integrity, full safety equipment and commendable performance in both adult and child protection tests, e Vitara is off to a compelling start as it approaches its market introduction.
