E-detection systems to be installed from February 1, 2025!!
The number of uninsured vehicles on the road is rising daily, endangering not just car owners but also ensuring that victims of traffic accidents receive fair compensation.
The Odisha State Transport Authority (STA) has now put in place a new approach to solve this issue. 22 toll gates in Odisha will have e-detection systems installed from February 1, 2025, which will recognize uninsured vehicles and automatically generate e-challans.
How will the E-Detection System work?
The vehicles' insurance status will be instantly verified by the e-detection devices at toll gates. A challan of Rs 2,000 would be imposed for the first time if a car is discovered to be uninsured.
There would be a challan of Rs 4,000 if the same car is found again. In addition, the offending car owner faces a maximum sentence of three months in prison. The guilty may occasionally receive both a fine and incarceration.
Why is the new mechanism necessary?
Many people delay in getting their cars insured, which prevents victims of traffic accidents from receiving compensation. To compensate for losses in the event of an accident, the Odisha government hopes that this new system will guarantee that every car on the road has current insurance.
This technology was earlier implemented in Bihar
Earlier the e-detection systems were implemented at 32 Toll plazas in Bihar by the Bihar Government. This system also helped in checking the PUC i.e. Pollution Under Control Certificate. If in case the vehicle was found without a PUC, a fine of Rs. 10,000 was imposed on the vehicle owner.
In just two days, this Bihar-implemented system had issued over 5,000 e-challans. Additionally, the government has stated that Patna, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, and other smart cities will eventually adopt this approach as well.
Conclusion
Therefore, use caution if you are operating a vehicle without insurance. Other states may soon adopt the e-detection system that has been implemented in places like Odisha and Bihar. In addition to increasing road safety, this will aid in obtaining justice in cases involving traffic accidents.
