Bmw I5 In Electric Performance With Dual Powertrain

BMW i5: A Breakthrough in Electric Performance with Dual Powertrain Choices

BMW introduces the i5 sedan, expanding its electric lineup with two powertrain options: eDrive40 and M60 xDrive. The i5 boasts impressive performance, a spacious interior, and advanced tech. Expected to compete globally, including in India, against rivals like Mercedes-Benz EQE and Tesla Model S.

BMW has revealed the i5 sedan as the latest addition to its global lineup of all-electric models, joining the iX1, i4, and i7.

The highly anticipated BMW i5 Touring, one of the first executive all-electric estates on the market, is set to be introduced. The electric powertrain in two power levels is expected to attract new customers and enhance sales of BMW's top-selling model.

The initial i5 variants include the rear-wheel-drive eDrive40 and the four-wheel-drive M60 xDrive. The eDrive40 model features a 340hp electric motor and 430Nm of torque, offering a claimed 0-100kph time of 6.0 seconds and a top speed of 193kph. The four-wheel-drive M60 xDrive incorporates the same rear-mounted electric motor and a smaller front-mounted motor that adds 259hp and 365Nm, resulting in a combined system output of 601hp and 820Nm.

It achieves a claimed 0-100kph time of 3.8 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 230kph. Both i5 models come equipped with an 81.2kWh lithium-ion battery, with the eDrive40 providing a claimed range of 497-582km (WLTP) and the M60 xDrive delivering a claimed range of 455-516km on the WLTP cycle. Charging capabilities include 11kW AC charging as standard, expandable to 22kW with an optional onboard charger, and a maximum DC charging capacity of 205kW, allowing for a 10-80 per cent charge in 30 minutes.

BMW has also confirmed the arrival of a third i5 model in 2024. The new 5 Series, built on BMW's Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform, showcases an increase in size compared to its predecessor, featuring a longer length, wider width, increased height, and extended wheelbase.

The design of the i5 follows the modern styling direction seen in the iX, with a prominent kidney grille, slim headlights, flush-fitting door handles, and a sleek rear design with thin LED tail lamps. The interior boasts a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen with the latest BMW iDrive 8.5 operating system, and ambient lighting elements.

With a likely introduction in India in 2024, the i5 is anticipated to fight against rivals like the Mercedes-Benz EQE, Tesla Model S, and future Audi A6 e-Tron in foreign markets.
