Hyundai Motor India, which currently has two electric models (the Ioniq 5 and Creta Electric), is going to bet big on battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the future. Talking to an online media outlet, Tarun Garg, Director and COO, Hyundai Motor India, stated that the EV segment is expanding at a rapid rate and could "touch 12-13 per cent over the next 4-5 years", aided by new government policies, charging infrastructure development and new models from mainstream OEMs catering to varied market needs.
Local Manufacturing
He also disclosed that Hyundai will be introducing three new BEVs alongside enhancing its charging infrastructure and localisation of its supply chain. The local manufacturing of the battery packs, cells, drivetrains, and power electronics will aid the automaker in having competitive pricing for its future electric cars.
Speaking about the EV infrastructure, Hyundai wants to install 600 public fast-charging stations across the country over the next seven years.
