Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is currently ranked 4th with 9% market share

A bestseller in the subcompact SUV category, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has seen updates and new versions regularly. The 2025 Toyota Hyryder has recently been launched with several new features and a new AWD variant.

In a step that is most likely due to market feedback, Toyota has launched a 6-speed automatic transmission with a V AWD variant. The new transmission is a replacement for the previous 5-speed manual transmission. People who require the manual AWD combination will likely have to opt for the corresponding Maruti Grand Vitara Alpha variant. The move to automatic for the V AWD variant makes Toyota Hyryder position itself more premium.

Though both the Hyryder and Grand Vitara are the same at their core, there is a huge difference between their monthly sales. Grand Vitara sells over twice as much, probably because it is slightly cheaper and has a bigger dealer network of Maruti. Including automatic transmission with the V AWD variant can attract a completely new set of users. It will be worth watching to determine if this new Hyryder variant will help increase sales figures in the months ahead.

New Features of Urban Cruiser Hyryder

Top trims of Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder also get new additions to the list of equipment. Ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, 8-way adjustable power driver seat, and rear-door sunshades are some of the examples. These changes follow industry trends. Depending upon the variant, customers will also be provided with features like an AQI monitor.

Some of the features have been made standard, like LED reading lights and USB Type-C charging points. Safety has also been increased with 6 airbags as standard across all Toyota Hyryder variants. Previously, two airbags were available with the base-level E and S trims of the Hyryder. The SUV now provides front, side, and curtain airbags across all variants.

Yet another addition is the tire pressure monitoring system in all trims, barring just the E variant. Some automatic trims of the Hyryder also enjoy the benefits of an electronic parking brake (EPB). Aside from these additions, a large chunk of the list of equipment does not change compared to the previous.

Same Engine Options

The 2025 Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder follows the current engine lineup. Mild-hybrid models use a 1.5-litre petrol motor from Maruti Suzuki. It produces 103.06 PS and 136.8 Nm of torque. For the 2WD models, the transmission options are 5MT and 6AT. As stated above, the 4WD V variant only comes with a 6AT transmission.

Of the mild hybrid models, the 2WD 5MT model has the best mileage of 21.11 km/l. The mild hybrid package is also offered with a petrol + CNG dual fuel variant. Mileage is 26.6 km/kg when powered by CNG.

Discussing the Hyryder strong hybrid models, the engine comes from Toyota-sourced 1.5-litre petrol. There's an electric motor too, which draws power from a lithium-ion battery pack. Power output in combined mode is 115.56 PS.

The hybrid power package comes with an e-CVT gearbox. It provides mileage of 27.97 km/l, which is even superior to the CNG version.
